MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 9, 2023

Cameron Young

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Cam, I know the last one you would have liked back, but over the last 24 hours the conditions you had so battle, especially at this property, how would you evaluate your game?

CAMERON YOUNG: I feel like I played really well. I think I made three doubles with no penalty strokes, and I'm going to lose by four-ish shots. So that is a bummer.

Yeah, that's about how I feel.

Q. Overall the way that this round played out and I'm sure you got to peek at some of the leaderboards and the commotion that was going on here, there and everywhere, what was it like just in the final round?

CAMERON YOUNG: Yeah, obviously it's a day that anything can happen. It's a difficult golf course that you can also make eight birdies on, so it's kind of -- I think it just makes for a day that anything can happen, and I was really hoping for the eight birdies, but I didn't quite get there.

I was proud of the way I played, I just didn't quite score as well as I could have.

Q. As you're looking at the leaderboard and you realize at some point you're in the mix, where was that, and what were you thinking at that point?

CAMERON YOUNG: I think the closest I got was probably on 17. There's been somebody in double digits all day, and I never came close to that, so I don't think I ever really got that close.

Q. When you look at those big numbers, what do you identify as the cause of them and what are you going to learn from --

CAMERON YOUNG: It's hard to say. Two of them were in the pouring rain, so I don't think that's really my fault, and one of them was the front bunker on 12 is not very fun. I landed it in the front fringe and it came back in the bunker, and that's a really bad spot to be to that middle hole.

I don't really know. I think it wouldn't have taken much for those three to be pars -- a bogey and two pars or whatever it was. I don't think necessarily anything I really did wrong. Just that's kind of how it shook out.

Q. Why do you think you feel so comfortable in these majors now?

CAMERON YOUNG: I don't know. I don't really know. I am really comfortable. I think I mentioned a couple days ago, I really didn't have any first-tee nerves, and I don't know, I think the more I'm out here, the more I see these golf courses, I think they just generally suit my game quite well. I've obviously proven to myself that I can compete and contend in them. I have no reason, I think, not to continue to do that.

Q. Did knowledge cost you anything this week?

CAMERON YOUNG: Not really. I think Paul did a great job. I was very aware of where I was going all week.

It's definitely a very tricky place. There's a lot of little nuances that you could probably spend 10 years walking around here and not find all of them. They're very thoughtful about every little slope and knob and shape of a green or bunker, whatever it is.

I don't think really a lack of knowledge. I obviously don't have that much experience out here, but I feel like this week kind of put us through the ringer, and I'd be ready for whatever came at us next year.

Q. Are there any positives -- I know it's hard to think of them right now, but anything possible you can take out of a positive for this week?

CAMERON YOUNG: Yeah, I just finished sixth or seventh at the Masters. Obviously there's no one out here that doesn't want to win, myself included, and it's a bummer to feel like I played well enough to win and to just come up a few short.

Yeah, it's all good really. It's just frustrating in the moment.
