Q. Amazing start. You couldn't ask for too much better. How did you feel about the round -- the start and then the round overall?

SAM BURNS: Yeah, I mean, overall solid. A little frustrated in the way I putted it, but other than that, solid.

Q. Can you compare it to last year, what you did better? Anything you can particularly point to?

SAM BURNS: I don't really remember last year, honestly. I think today I hit it nice and gave myself a lot of opportunities, just wasn't able to make 'em.

Q. What do you normally do after a bad putting day or a disappointing putting day?

SAM BURNS: Go putt.

Q. Do you have anything, like drills or anything, you do? How do you get confidence?

SAM BURNS: I'll just go putt on a chalk line, make sure I'm starting it on line, and go from there pretty much.

Q. Is that what normally is off is just the start line, it's not a stroke or anything?

SAM BURNS: Not really. I mean, usually starting it on line. I feel like I started it on line today. The ball just wasn't going in.

Q. Does that give you a little bit of confidence knowing that it's a little bit easier to maybe fix the putting than the swing?

SAM BURNS: Yeah, I think you give yourself a lot of opportunities. Hopefully, my putter will heat up a little bit and be able to get some momentum as I make some.

Q. Pretty high up the leaderboard today. What do you take from that?

SAM BURNS: Not much, really. A lot of golf left to play. Just go do a little putting and kind of start recovering and get ready for tomorrow.

Q. Can you tell like kind of inside that it's a major week compared to just a regular event? Do you get a little bit more amped or a little bit more nervous?

SAM BURNS: Yeah, I think you can feel the energy out here at such a historic place. It's definitely a type of feel when you arrive on the grounds here.

Q. Did you watch the women's hoops game?

SAM BURNS: A little bit, yeah.

Q. You ever shot it like that?

SAM BURNS: No. Not even close.

Q. How close did you hit it on the first three holes and then on 15 what did you hit in?

SAM BURNS: 1 was probably 15, 18 feet. 2, probably 7, 8 feet. 3, probably 4 feet. 15, maybe 12.

Q. What did you hit into the green?

SAM BURNS: On 15? 6-iron.
