MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 6, 2023

Adam Svensson

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. So what did it feel like to stand on the 1st tee at your first Masters?

ADAM SVENSSON: It was awesome. I was a little nervous and plunked it right down the middle. It was exciting. I enjoyed the whole day.

Q. You had four birdies in five holes there. Tough start, but you turned it around. What kind of clicked for you?

ADAM SVENSSON: The putter had a bunch of three-putts there, and just a little shaky off the start. But it's a tough golf course.

I don't know, I just kind of started to play a little bit better. Hit a couple nice shots. The putter made a couple nice putts. Just kept grinding. Just kept grinding.

Q. You mentioned your nerves. A little bit of nerves. Was it more than you expected? What was the biggest sort of moment? Was it the walk towards the 1st hole?

ADAM SVENSSON: No, it was just to be my first time at the Masters. I don't know, just it's unbelievable out here.

Q. How did the course -- how did it play compared to the practice rounds as far as, A, I guess just the course, and then B, how you handled your nerves on some of those greens?

ADAM SVENSSON: I definitely noticed the greens were a lot faster, a little firmer. It took me a while to warm up to that. I knew that was going to happen. It's tough. Still tough to judge the greens.

Those pins are on slopes and stuff. You get a 30-footer, and I'm hitting it eight feet by and stuff like that. Tomorrow will be better adjusting to the greens and just work on the putting a little bit.

Q. You played all over the world. When was the last time you were that nervous?

ADAM SVENSSON: I wasn't that nervous, but I was just more excited, I would say. I wasn't like shaking or anything. It was just more excitement. I was super excited. I was just a little quick with my swing. I was just having a lot of fun.

Yeah, just got a little ahead of myself there.

Q. Was the Masters a big deal for you growing up? Was it a favorite tournament to watch? Do you have any memories of watching it growing up?

ADAM SVENSSON: Oh, 100 percent. Watching Adam Scott make that putt a couple years ago. Got Tiger, so many cool memories. I played with Patrick Reed today.

Q. Can you take us through the birdie?

ADAM SVENSSON: Yeah, on hole 12, the par-3, hit a good shot in there, made a good birdie. Almost eagled 13.

Q. What did you have there?

ADAM SVENSSON: Hit a 4-iron in. I had 227 hole. And then made a poor bogey, then made a nice birdie on the next one.

Q. On 15?

ADAM SVENSSON: 15, yeah.

Q. What happened there?

ADAM SVENSSON: Hit driver, 3-wood just short of the green. Hit a high cut 3-wood and chipped up and made my birdie. The next hole, the par-3, hit it on top of the slope on the right there and made a nice 35-footer.

Q. Oh, a long one?

ADAM SVENSSON: Yeah. Had a nice look on 18 there, just played too much break.

Q. The wind on 12 is famously hard to judge. It's not gusting by any means, but there always seems to be wind there. Did you get that feeling where you're looking around trying to sort of figure it out? Had you heard -- obviously you heard how hard that can be to judge?

ADAM SVENSSON: Yeah, it was swirling. It felt into, felt across, it felt down, and I just kind of trusted myself and went with it. That's all you can really do on that hole.

Q. What club did you hit?

ADAM SVENSSON: I hit 9-iron.

Q. How close were you?

ADAM SVENSSON: I was ten feet, around there. I hit a really good shot.
