MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 5, 2023

Danny Willett

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. A little steamy out there today?

DANNY WILLETT: It's nice. It's been a little cold. Hopefully this will dry the golf course out a bit.

Q. Until we get rain in a coupe days and it's like 50 degrees?

DANNY WILLETT: It's a shame. We played Sunday. Practiced Saturday, played Sunday, and the golf course was getting real good. Firm, fast.

Hopefully they can suck a little bit of the moisture out and get it to a real good place before Saturday. Hopefully we don't get it too bad.

Q. How big was last year's appearance as like a confidence boost to kind of prove like I can contend here again?

DANNY WILLETT: I think, if you come here with your game intact, there's a lot of similar shots that you see on TV, you hit yourself. You can kind of play practice rounds in your head, and you know where most pins are going to be.

As long as you come here with your game intact and you do a lot of the stuff around the greens, I think you do see a lot of repeat champions around here. Because of that, you kind of get used to the sort of breaks and kind of some of the things that people might not see if they don't play here real often.

Yeah, it definitely plays into the favor of guys who have got a bit of experience.

Q. Is your game intact this week?

DANNY WILLETT: We're getting there. We've worked hard the last few days. We had three weeks off before this after a long spell of golf. So we're a little bit rusty in terms of golf competition stuff. So I'm going to go do a little bit more.

Yeah, fingers crossed we had a good rest, and we'll see.

Q. What's the highlight for you last night at the dinner?

DANNY WILLETT: It was just nice that everyone was there. Everyone pitched up to celebrate Scottie's win. We had a good time. The food was good. Yeah, I think we celebrated Scottie's win real well.

Q. Obviously people were predicting what was going to happen, all this stuff. How nice was it to get there last night and finally like kind of have it actually happen?

DANNY WILLETT: We all respect that we're in that room because we played some great golf around this golf course at some point in our lives. I don't think anyone's silly enough to kind of make that not the theme of the night.

So, yeah, it was nice that we were all there, and we all had a great time. Like I said, the main focus there was to celebrate what Scottie did last year.

Q. About the food itself, someone said that the soup was spicy?

DANNY WILLETT: I ate it all, but it was spicy.

Q. Was it too spicy for you?

DANNY WILLETT: No, I ate it, but I did look over at Scottie and ask if he was trying to kill us.

Q. Scottie said he expected to get emotional, but I heard that actually was it Larry Mize?

DANNY WILLETT: Scottie got a little bit but not too bad.

Larry was, being an Augusta boy, this was his last one. It means a lot to us all to be playing here. Yeah, when eventually you call it your time, it's going to be a pretty sad time.
