MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 4, 2023

Brooks Koepka

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Brooks, let's just start with the win over the weekend. How much confidence do you bring in here coming off that win?

BROOKS KOEPKA: It feels good. I've been playing good for a while. It was nice to see some -- kind of get rid of the mistakes that have kind of been plaguing me for a couple weeks.

Playing really good. Like where my game's at. It's pretty good to come in with a win, into here.

Q. What were some of those mistakes you were trying to eliminate?

BROOKS KOEPKA: It was just simple stuff. It's like missing on the wrong side of the hole so you're short-sided. You've got wedge in your hand, you get a little too aggressive and then trying to be perfect, and then all of a sudden you end up making bogey.

Missing it in the wrong side off the tee. Just little things like that.

Q. I know you've always traditionally put your emphasis on majors. The fact that you've won at Orlando two days ago must bode well considering you don't play as many events on the LIV Golf Tour. Are you thinking the momentum coming into this thing is going to be something you could ride?

BROOKS KOEPKA: Yeah, I hope so. Winning's pretty good. Look, I've played five events this year. I think usually I'd play six coming into this. So I've played enough golf and I'm ready.

It's the Masters, so you get up for it.

Q. You've had some success here. Less maybe recent, but do you look back on some of the success you've had here and take good memories coming into this week?

BROOKS KOEPKA: Yeah, I don't really count the last two. One of them was three weeks after surgery, so just figuring out how to walk the place was tough enough. Just still wasn't a hundred percent last year. So to me, I don't really count those.

Look, I've had, like you said, some success when I'm playing healthy and playing well. I don't see why I can't do that going out this week.

Q. What have you learned about this course to help you put a game plan together to attack?

BROOKS KOEPKA: A lot of it is being in certain spots off the tee, knowing where the pin is, knowing where you can get it -- even though you might not be in the fairway or the correct side of the fairway, it makes it quite difficult sometimes just for the pin locations, where slopes are, where everything is.

So just making sure off the tee you're in the right spots is a huge thing out here. I think the more rounds you kind of have here, the better off you are, the more understanding. They're still changing things, 7 green, 13, so it will be quite interesting to see what happens.

Q. You spoke recently about feeling healthy. What does that do for your golf game? What does healthy look like to you now?

BROOKS KOEPKA: Just feels normal. It's been a long time since everything's felt normal. I mean, even Ricky said it yesterday walking down 10. I didn't have to walk down the side of the slope. I can go straight down, which is nice.

Being able to just comfortably read a putt, just little things like that. Being able to squat down normal, it's been a huge, huge difference.

Q. I'm sure you know that people will make something of you playing with Rory. For the record, is there anything to make of you playing with Rory given where both of you stand?

BROOKS KOEPKA: He texted me congrats on Sunday, then I asked him if he wanted to play. We had that scheduled. It wasn't just a random show up on the tee.

I mean, I think everybody forgets that we see each other in off weeks and play with each other and talk with each other. There's an open line of communication there between me and him. I think we're both pretty honest in where we're at.

Q. People who have seen Rory be very outspoken, very pro PGA TOUR and have spoken about the LIV TOUR. Is it a good sign for people to see you guys playing together and they think, oh, this is a good step forward? Would you agree with that, just to the public eye?

BROOKS KOEPKA: I guess you could say that. It's more just two friends just wanting to play together. I guess you could look at it that way.

But yeah, I just wanted to play with him, just compare my game. I know he's been playing well.

So it was good for me to see, and I think it's fun to be able to go play with these guys. We haven't played with these guys in a long time, so just getting out to go play with them has been nice because it's been a lot of just seeing everybody.

It's been probably, I don't know, eight months since we've seen a lot of guys.

Q. What has the reception been like this week?

BROOKS KOEPKA: It's been good. We're still close with these guys, still see them. A lot of them down in Jupiter, so you see them quite a bit. I mean, nothing new.

Probably about maybe ten guys I just haven't seen or communicated with.

But everything's been good, man. We're still the same people.
