AUGUSTA NATIONAL WOMEN'S AMATEUR

April 1, 2023

Andrea Lignell

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Can you tell us your overall experience. First time, right?

ANDREA LIGNELL: Yes.

Q. So from your expectation to what happened here this week playing Augusta, take me through that.

ANDREA LIGNELL: It definitely hit me when I came to the 1st tee, seeing people like Annika sitting at the 1st tee. I had a mental breakdown on the range, I was so nervous.

Just like teeing off was so nice getting out on the course. Obviously the weather delay. Kind of needed for me to get a break, settle in, start over.

I just had a great day out there. It was so much fun.

Q. Do you remember an experience like playing at Augusta in the last group at ANWA today with all the patrons and everyone around you?

ANDREA LIGNELL: That was so cool. I guess not many people could say they played in the last group at ANWA. I'm just so happy.

Q. You had a front row seat to Rose today. What did you notice out of her game? What was she doing well? What was she struggling with?

ANDREA LIGNELL: At the beginning she struggled a little bit with her driver. I feel like she got it sorted out pretty quick. She is a steady player. She doesn't make a lot of mistakes. She's just so good.

Q. Didn't make many putts out there.

ANDREA LIGNELL: I feel like she did not make many putts today, because usually she's really good with her putter.

Q. What was it like for you on 15 to watch her talk through the shot and where that shot ended up?

ANDREA LIGNELL: Like the one in the water?

Q. Yeah.

ANDREA LIGNELL: That's kind of heartbreaking actually. You only wish for her to like hit the green and for it to go over the water. So yeah, that was actually really sad, I thought.

Q. What was the biggest challenge with the conditions today?

ANDREA LIGNELL: Definitely the wind. It's just swirling. Especially when you're down by Amen Corner and stuff, you have to be really careful with the wind.

That was for sure the biggest challenge for me.

Q. You've played with Jenny Bae a bunch, SEC rivalries and stuff. What does she do really well? What's the best part of her game?

ANDREA LIGNELL: I haven't played with her in a while. She drives it pretty far. That's her advantage, I would say. She hits it pretty far.

Q. Between the practice round yesterday and today with the patrons about, was it a little intimidating for you, that big change this morning?

ANDREA LIGNELL: Yes, for sure. I've never seen a crowd this big before. I never played in front of it either.

It was a big adjustment from yesterday, but I loved every minute of it.

Q. Did you use a local caddie today?

ANDREA LIGNELL: I did not. I have my own caddie, my swing coach from back home.

Q. How proud are you your first time here to finish third?

ANDREA LIGNELL: I'm really proud of myself. Also how I handled myself after the weather delay, just getting back into it. So I'm really proud of myself.

Q. What was your moment today? What was the highlight of your day?

ANDREA LIGNELL: Probably my -- it has to be either the walk up on 18 or my birdie on 11 with like the crowd in the background.

Q. What did you hit in at 11?

ANDREA LIGNELL: I hit a 9-iron to about four feet.

Q. Probably one of your best birdies of all time.

ANDREA LIGNELL: Yes, that was a good one.

Q. Then you birdied 12. Talk about that.

ANDREA LIGNELL: I was kind of scared for that hole. It was one of the toughest shots out there because you don't have much green to work with.

No, I just hit the perfect number today.
