Ruoning Yin

Los Angeles, California, USA

Palos Verdes Golf Club

Quick Quotes

Q. All right, Ruoning, first one here this week to get to double digits at 10-under with the clubhouse lead after round two. Walk me through what this day was like for you.

RUONING YIN: Today I played pretty good. I think I hit 13 fairways and 13 greens and 24 putts, which is amazing for me I think.

And, yeah, to be honest, this course I think just make us much green as you can and should be good.

Q. So let's start. You start off with a birdie on 10 today. Started on the back nine. What was going so well from the jump?

RUONING YIN: I felt my game was in a pretty solid spot right now. I can strike the ball well and my approach shot is pretty good.

Yeah, everything is pretty good.

Q. I know you had the one bogey on 18. Once you made that turn, your last nine hole you kept that momentum going. How do you keep that consistent play going?

RUONING YIN: I think on 18 I think I lost some focus on 18 approach shot. After that, I'm just like talk to myself, I'm going to make more birdies.

Yeah.

Q. What was working well on your back nine, those front nine holes? That's where we've seen a lot of birdies today.

RUONING YIN: I mean, I think the pin position is pretty easy today, and, yeah, like I say, I strike the ball very good.

Yeah.

Q. What have you been working on going into an event like this and a course like that this has these hills, these undulations, and these poa greens? What have you been working on for this tournament specifically?

RUONING YIN: Ball striking I think, because last year I only play fade with every shot. This off-season I was working on maybe can hit a little draw, and I think that works.

Q. When did you decide to put that kind of skill?

RUONING YIN: Early this year I think I talked to my coach and he goes, you got to learn to play both ways.

Yeah.

Q. What has that been like? What's that process been like for you?

RUONING YIN: It's not hard. Took me maybe two weeks to learn and control how to hit a draw. Yeah, it's pretty easy for me.

Q. This is now your second year on the LPGA Tour officially. Is there a little less pressure on your shoulders now that you're not an LPGA Tour rookie?

RUONING YIN: Yeah, I mean, play on tour is amazing. Feels great. I think this year biggest different for me is I'm thinking more about how can I get into the winning circle instead of making the cut.

So I think that's big one for me.

Q. I was going to ask, have your goals changed this year as opposed to maybe last year?

RUONING YIN: Yeah. I think I'm playing pretty good. Maybe can win one or two tournaments this year.

Q. After last week starting out your season on tour and now this week, how confident are you feeling in your game?

RUONING YIN: I feel, yeah, pretty confident. A lot of confidence right now. I feel like I can shoot like almost 5-under every day.

Yeah.

Q. A 64 on this course is quite impressive, especially on day two. What are you looking to feed off going into the weekend now?

RUONING YIN: I think just play my game. I mean, yeah, like I said, my game is in good spot right now. I'm just going to play my game.

Q. Do you feel more comfortable being a tour member now?

RUONING YIN: Yeah.

Q. Explain to me the feeling of when you go to tournaments this year as opposed to maybe last year.

RUONING YIN: I think last year was -- I mean, first year is always the hardest part. Every week is a new city, new course. This year, you know, especially my dad travel with me this year, and, yeah, just feels good when you have family member around you.

Q. How much does that help you on and off the golf course with your dad here?

RUONING YIN: I mean, help me a lot because I don't have to worry about what I going to eat after a round or something like that.

Yeah.

Q. Going into tomorrow, what will you focus on now that you're in contention here at Palos Verdes?

RUONING YIN: I think I'm just going to focus on make the green and make the putt. I think, yeah, that's my strategy here I think.
