DIO IMPLANT LA OPEN

March 31, 2023

Maude-Aimee Leblanc

Los Angeles, California, USA

Palos Verdes Golf Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Here with Maude-Aimee LeBlanc after her second round at the DIO Implant LA Open. You said you were feeling lucky yesterday after your round. How are you feeling today?

MAUDE-AIMEE LEBLANC: It was an interesting round. I feel like it was either a really good shot or a really bad one. I don't know.

So yeah, there is still something in my swing that doesn't feel quite right yet, but it's great to still be able to post some scores.

My putting feels good. Even if I missed couple short ones out there I feel like I'm rolling the ball really well; getting good feel for the speed as well.

Yeah, overall, again, another round that I'll run away with.

Q. Yeah. Speaking of your putting, seems that's been pretty consistent through these two rounds. Has that been the key out there, and have you been working hard on your putting?

MAUDE-AIMEE LEBLANC: My putting has been very consistent the last couple years since I changed a few things technically.

I focus a lot on the speed. For me that seems to be the key. Some greens I feel more comfortable than others, but this week, again, the speed is -- I feel comfortable with the speed, so that always helps.

Q. What specifically were some of the technical changes you made?

MAUDE-AIMEE LEBLANC: So I started putting with a line on the ball. So I put my left hand low on the grip before putting my right hand.

That kind of aligns my shoulder and makes sure I'm not too open. I tend to open a little bit. Yeah, just those two simple things seem to be working.

Q. Also, your length is looking pretty good. Always for you; you're a long hitter. Is that helpful out here on this course?

MAUDE-AIMEE LEBLANC: Definitely, yeah, because the course is playing a little soft so it is playing longer, which for me is still pretty short.

So, yeah, I'm able to take advantage of that.

Q. Are you acknowledging where you are on the leaderboard or do you not pay attention to that?

MAUDE-AIMEE LEBLANC: I think I saw -- no, I mean, I looked at it once early during the round, but I have no idea where I stand.

Q. Do you know where you are now after the round?

MAUDE-AIMEE LEBLANC: No.

Q. Well you're the clubhouse leader with still some more to play.

MAUDE-AIMEE LEBLANC: Oh.

Q. Does that change your mentality going into the weekend or do you keep the same routine?

MAUDE-AIMEE LEBLANC: Not really. Keep the same routine and just try to get a little -- like one mental thing that will help feel a little more comfortable with my swing. That's all I'm trying to find right now.

Q. Mentally how do you bounce back? I know your scorecard had a lot of birdies, some bogeys. A little bit of rough start this morning. How do you mentally recover and let the shots go?

MAUDE-AIMEE LEBLANC: Yeah, so I spent over an hour on the range last night after the round. Wasn't able to find anything.

I was kind of hoping today would feel a little different, but it didn't. Kind of picked up the same way I left the round yesterday.

Start overthinking a little bit technically, positions, and that's never really a good thing. So my caddie and I were like okay let's just focus on numbers, target, numbers, target, numbers target.

That seems to help a little bit.

Q. Last question: Had a T3 finish I think on Epson two weeks ago in Arizona before you played in Drive On. How did that start help and you, and any momentum from starting there getting good result that you feel coming into this week?

MAUDE-AIMEE LEBLANC: Yeah, that was a great boost of confidence. I saw a lot of great things with my ball flight that week that I've been working on during the off-season, so it was good to see that in tournament because it's always -- it's not the same as practicing obviously, so it was nice to bring that in competition.

So, yeah.
