Palos Verdes Golf Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Here with Lucy Li after her first round here at the DIO Implant LA Open. Take us through your round today and how well you just managed this course. I know it's been playing a little tricky today.

LUCY LI: I just hit it really well and just kept doing that and kind of -- it was kind of windy on the back nine, so just like managing that really well; judging the distances very well was really good. I had a couple tap-in birdies which was nice because the greens are pretty tricky.

Yeah, just hitting it good.

Q. I know last week was your first official tour start as a member, and probably didn't go the way you had hoped. Do you pick yourself up and move on to the next event and just come out guns-a-blazing I guess?

LUCY LI: Yes, definitely last week was tough. It was my first competition in so many months. I think I was just maybe a little bit of nerves, a little bit rust.

I really like this golf course. It definitely suits me a lot better than last week, so I definitely felt a lot more comfortable out here. So I kind of just had to tell myself to move on from that and forget it ever happened basically.

Q. Being from the Bay Area, are the golf courses up there similar to this and the conditions? I know it was rainy today.

LUCY LI: Yeah, I would say they're kind of similar. We've got hilly courses, greens are poana, you know, so there is definitely some similarities. A little bit of wind. A little bit of cold.

So definitely feel pretty comfortable out there. The fairways are a little different with the kind of like kikuyu grass getting some different lies. I haven't chipped out of rough in a while so getting used to that a little bit.

Q. Yeah, so what were some of the highlights you remember out there today? Any holes in particular stand out as being super easy for you?

LUCY LI: I wouldn't say super easy, but definitely a highlight was the shot I hit into 9 today. I hit a really good drive but kind of got like a weird kick and got stuck behind that tree. With the preferred lies it was nice. I got a club length out to the right, so I kind of hit this slinging hook around it and it rolled up to like a foot. That was really nice shot, yeah.

Q. So what did you learn about the course, about your game, about your nerves, about anything that you hope to carry into tomorrow's round before the cut?

LUCY LI: Just that my game is there and, you know, I feel ready to go for the season.
