DIO IMPLANT LA OPEN

March 30, 2023

Lilia Vu

Los Angeles, California, USA

Palos Verdes Golf Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Okay, here with Lilia Vu after her first round at the DIO Implant LA Open. Take us through your round today. Bogey-free. How important is that out on this golf course?

LILIA VU: I actually got away with a couple. I made maybe three 10-footers for par. Kind of whacked it by on a couple putts.

It's really fast downhill, and today I was just focused on trying to hit fairways and give myself a chance for birdie.

If it goes in, then it goes in. It's not necessarily an easy putting type of course, so just try to stay patient out there.

Q. You said you think you only hit two fairways on the front nine. How hard was it to find those fairways today? And why?

LILIA VU: I think it was just me. I think I was just a little rattled to begin with. Just wasn't feeling good with my warmup.

But I got into the swing of things at the end of it, so excited for tomorrow.

Q. Yeah. What made you feel better as you got out on the course? I know you probably had some support here this week and feeling comfortable in the area, right?

LILIA VU: Yeah, I had some family come out today pretty early in the week, so it was nice to see them. They came on hole -- my sixth hole so it was nice.

Q. Yeah. Tell us about some of the challenges like with the rain and just the course in general and how you sort of have been managing those during the first round?

LILIA VU: The course is kind of hilly so you kind of want to carry the ball as much as you can, and then it gets kind of wet and then you're kind of in between numbers. Kind of want to take the longer club and just fly it there.

Greens have been wet, so I think I spun the ball three to four times off the green today. Hopefully it dries out throughout the week. I also had to deal with that.

Q. You are also playing with Lizette today. Any USC-UCLA smack talk out there at all?

LILIA VU: No. I feel like I generally like the Trojans. We're good friends. I don't really take on the rivalry myself.

Q. Okay.

LILIA VU: So I feel like we're all friends. We play in the same area, same conference. We're all friends.

Q. I think you're one of a minority opinion there.

LILIA VU: Oh, really?

Q. That's fine. I like that. Last question: What's the plan tomorrow? What are you expecting to be different or the same from today?

LILIA VU: I think tomorrow should be a little warmer, and hopefully it doesn't rain so the course can kind of dry out a little bit. It was a little wet today obviously because of the rain this morning, yesterday, and then rain during the round.

So hopefully it dries up. It's looking really pretty right now, so kind of jealous us of all the girls playing right now.
