WGC DELL TECHNOLOGIES MATCH PLAY

March 26, 2023

Scottie Scheffler

Austin, Texas, USA

Austin Country Club

Quick Quotes - Consolation Match

Q. You played a lot of golf today. Were they just a little better today than you or did you not have your best?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I just kept spotting everybody shots. I mean, I was thinking about it today, when I got 3-down, I was like, man, I've been down so many times. I was 2-down to J.T. with not much time left. I was 3-down to Jason. I was 3-down to Sam. I was 3-down to Rory. So I was just spotting people too much shots.

This morning, I played pretty solid. Sam obviously got off to a hot start and played really good pretty much the whole day. He went out there and beat me at the end. I didn't lose it to him. So props to him. This afternoon, I just had some trouble focusing. I like to -- I like to show up and do my best, but it was definitely a challenge this afternoon. It was a weird feeling playing for third place. But at the end of the day, you got to show up and hit the shots and I showed up and I didn't the first six holes. I was 3-down again.

So I did my best to fight back, but, yeah, just sometimes the putts look like they're going in, they don't, and sometimes they do and you win. And then this is one of those weeks where they didn't and you end up in fourth. So I'm very happy with how the week went. I did a good job of fighting all week without my best game and it was definitely fun being back here in Austin.

Q. It was interesting you say this afternoon match playing for third. You're used to playing for first. Was that a big problem with your focus?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I would say early. It's just -- it was such a quick turnaround after the playoff, and that's no excuse for playing bad. I mean, we're professionals. We show up and we're supposed to play well. And I'm a competitive guy and I snapped back into it when I was -- I think I was 3-down maybe through 5, and I was like, oh, my gosh, if I don't snap back in, I'm going to be done on hole 12. So it was good to fight back but just couldn't hole the putts this week.

Q. Obviously this is not a regular format that you're used to, but can you take a lot of positives moving to Augusta?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah. So I would say in the beginning of the week, I didn't feel like I was hitting my putts as solid and as the week went on, I just felt like I was hitting putts more and more solid and I was hitting a lot of quality. So I have a couple things to work on before Augusta, but definitely plenty of confidence going in and great memories from Austin. It's been a fun three years for this tournament for me and I'm sad that it won't be back.
