LPGA DRIVE ON CHAMPIONSHIP

March 24, 2023

Ryann O'Toole

Gold Canyon, Arizona, USA

Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Here with Ryann O'Toole after a second round at the LPGA on the Drive On Championship. Bogey-free, 8-under round. Best so far. I don't know if you know that. Best so far at this course.

RYANN O'TOOLE: I love it.

Q. Just talk me through it.

RYANN O'TOOLE: Yesterday went out, my game has been feeling really good all week. Been striking it really well. Putting really about.

Went out yesterday and all of a sudden I wasn't hitting irons very good, and just don't know. I mean, I was putting well, so I chalked up yesterday's round to just one of those days.

Like, okay, even but even out here feels like you get lapped. So just stay patient. Tomorrow is another day. You know, as golf goes, some days it feels good, some days it doesn't.

Today the irons were doing good. I was making a ton of putts. You know, feel like I know Arizona golf courses fairly well, especially condition-wise, so tried to use that to my advantage.

One of my goals was definitely to not have a bogey. I looked at my round yesterday, I'm like, Ah, three bogeys. I got to start getting those off. I'm happy today was none.

Q. What sort of preparation did you have in the off-season? I know you played in some events already this season?

RYANN O'TOOLE: Yeah.

Q. But what sort of preparation did those events give you in the off-season that helped prepare you for this?

RYANN O'TOOLE: I mean, I think having TOC, you know, off-season feels so quick and you throw TOC in and I'm changing clubs, trying to figure out what's in the bag. You see what works or not, then couple weeks of tweak, then Saudi and the two Asia events.

Okay, I can see some stuff. Then gave myself a few things to work on and now I'm out here. I just feel like everything is a progression. Sometimes just dust the rust off, but try to get myself peaking. I love the West Coast Swing. Really glad we're back in Arizona and heading to LA next week.

Looking forward to that as well.

Q. Curious, you said you were trying to take the bogeys off the card. What did you learn about the course yesterday -- this is a tricky course -- that you sort of used today?

RYANN O'TOOLE: Like there is a lot of birdie opportunities out here. Scores will be low all week so just minimizing certain mistakes.

Like I said I wasn't hitting irons very good. I had a miss yesterday that I'm not used to seeing, so I was like, what is this, and I don't know what to do with it. So I was just trying to stay patient.

And then today like just be aggressive when I could and be patient when I could. Made quite a few 20-footers today that was just nice. Like I just feel like I'm reading the greens well. Speeds are great. So just trying to just allow myself, if I get it on on the green, give myself an opportunity and, hey, it might go in.
