Min Woo

Austin, Texas, USA

Austin Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Birdied 17, birdied 18. Talk about the quality of that finish.

MIN WOO LEE: I mean, it was back and forth all day. It was tough. Lipped out a couple holes on 15 and 16, and it was nice to actually get one dropping on 17. Got a lucky break there. Yeah, it was a nice drive. I don't know how it went three, four yards in the air, but it was nice to have an uphill bunker shot and make up and down.

Q. You're coming off a pretty emotional couple of weeks ago at THE PLAYERS Championship. Describe the shift in mindset from stroke play then to match play now?

MIN WOO LEE: Yeah, I've always loved match play. I wish there were more tournaments like it. I've always liked to play one-on-one with someone and hit big drives and putt it when you need to, when you need to hole a putt. I like that feeling.

I mean, it was a great week at PLAYERS. To have a win here on the first round, it's a rewarding thing.

Q. Congratulations. What a great match. You and Sahith Theegala went at it for 18 holes. Thoughts on the win, including birdies at 17 and 18 to pull it out?

MIN WOO LEE: Yeah, I guess I could say it was clutch, but, yeah, lipped out on 15 and 16 and it was kind of daunting. I told my caddie, it would've been very nice to hole this birdie on 15.

Yeah, took a lot of the hole out there and it was nice to birdie 17 and hit a nice drive on 18 and make up and down.

So it was back and forth. He could have had the game and he could have had the match and I could have had the match. So it was just back and forth.

But it was awesome. That's what you want. You want to bring the best out of each other and that's what we did.

Q. And people listening, you've got 12 feet at 17; he's got about 5 and a half. You're thinking he's going to close out the match and that's just the way this is. You never know.

MIN WOO LEE: Exactly. I know match play is so mental, and if I miss the putt he's probably holing it and I'm 2-down.

Like I said in the other interview, I just love having my back against the wall when I need to do it. Match play is a funny thing. Got a lucky break on 17, and, yeah, it was all momentum into 18, which was nice. Yeah, I've just been chipping putting really good so it was nice.
