THE PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP

March 11, 2023

Scottie Scheffler

Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, USA

TPC Sawgrass

Quick Quotes

Q. A lot of patience required between just being the two of you and the stoppage? Did it feel like a long couple days?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, I was walking as slow as possible, which still wasn't even close to being slow enough. Took a few bathroom breaks this morning just to do something other than walk and stand. But yeah, just had to stay patient. That's the same way, trying to get around this golf course.

Q. How did you feel like this played this morning compared to yesterday afternoon?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Definitely a lot softer. Wind was not a complete 180 but pretty close from where it was in the morning. Definitely a lot different.

But yeah, just a little softer.

Q. Upon reflection, good or bad break that you couldn't keep going last night?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I mean, who knows what would have happened last night, if the winds were going to stay up or if they were going to stay down. You can look at it a bunch of different ways. I'm not going to look too far into it.

Q. How early did you have to get ready for this? When were you up for a 7:00 a.m. start?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Woke up at 4:00 this morning and probably got on property about 4:45-ish.

Q. What was the biggest adjustment you made from yesterday, if there was any adjustment?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I think just adjusting to the conditions. It was quite soft. It was actually a bit cooler this morning, and when I showed up at the golf course it was blowing pretty hard, and when I went out to hit my practice putts the wind stopped, and it wasn't really blowing when we played 11, kind of started blowing on 12 and then it started blowing a little bit probably 13 through 16, and then by the time I got to 17 it started whipping pretty good. 17 and 18 were playing pretty tough. Other than that, it was pretty gettable out there.

Q. What excites you about this course and what makes you nervous about it?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I mean, I just think it's a good test tee to green. I think what makes me a little nervous is the stuff kind of around. You don't really know if you're going to get a good or bad break. Anytime you're hitting fairways and greens out here it's pretty scorable, but the minute you miss a fairway, depending on where you end up in one of these little hollows or pot bunkers or something like that you can get in weird spots pretty quick.

Q. Do you drink coffee?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: When I'm at home, not out here.

Q. What do you mean not out here? Is it something about Florida or --

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yes (laughing). I make myself coffee every morning at home, but I don't do it when I play.

Q. You drink coffee every morning not at a golf tournament and then a golf tournament no mornings?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Sometimes for practice rounds, but yeah.

Q. Because it makes you jittery?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, just no need. It's kind of my like routine at home. I started doing it after the Open last year. I just got an espresso machine and started learning how to use it, and it's fun. So I just do that in the morning and sit there and read and then start my day.

Q. You don't get a headache if you don't drink it or anything?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Maybe I'm making my espresso wrong or something like that.

Q. You got an espresso machine at St Andrews last year?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: No, I ordered one on Amazon while I was at St Andrews.

Q. What possessed you to do that?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I don't know. I remember one of the trainers out here used to make coffee all the time, and I had it a few times and he made just fantastic coffee, and so I was like I'm just going to get the same one as Nick and hopefully he'll teach me how to use it, but he's on another Tour.

Q. Is it a nice one?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: It's pretty good.

Q. Breville?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, Breville.

Q. It's not one you can take with you?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: No. Too much for me.
