THE PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP

Cam Davis

Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, USA

TPC Sawgrass

Quick Quotes

Q. How was the round?

CAM DAVIS: It was a good round. I felt like I got just about everything I could have out of that round. This whole day actually, I played, what, 25 holes or so and I felt like I did a really good job of getting the most out of what I had. So, yeah, awesome to get some momentum, awesome to see my name up toward the top of the leaderboard. Yeah, I'm really looking forward to keep pushing tomorrow and keep doing what I've been doing and hopefully some more birdies drop.

Q. This course seems to every year bring a kind of strange leaderboard with it. I'm wondering why do you think that is?

CAM DAVIS: This course can suit anyone or no one. I mean, it's not overly long, it forces you to take some shorter lines off the tees because you can't cut a lot of corners and because the pins are cut in the way they are, good shots get rewarded, some almost great shots don't. Sometimes it can be very hard to make pars even though you're feeling like you're playing well. Sometimes it feels like the birdies won't stop coming. So I'm glad I had the latter on the back nine today.

You just have to get out of your way and play the golf course as it presents itself to you as you go around and try not to force anything to happen, just keep on, yeah, kind of cruising. It feels like I've been cruising even though I haven't been hitting it super great off the tee. I've kept myself in it.

Q. Why do you think you've been able to -- what else has been clicking so well that you've been able to keep yourself in it?

CAM DAVIS: My short game's feeling like it's been pretty solid. Putting is the main thing. I think once you see a few putts go in, you get comfortable with the reads out here. The greens are really good, so if you hit a good putt they almost always go in.

So, yeah, that sort of stuff. There's a lot of momentum savers by making some nice par putts. It's a lot of kicking forward by making some birdie putts. But, yeah, I would say when the ball striking hasn't been there, the short game's been there. So I want to make sure that's staying for tomorrow, and hopefully the ball striking is even better and make the most of it.

Q. Do you find the pin positions here, like particularly on Saturday, do you find the pin positions are generally more gettable?

CAM DAVIS: They can be. Some are, some aren't. There's a mix. They always do a good job of mixing them up out here. It's fun playing 17 with the pin up the front. Fun playing 18 if you hit the fairway because you got the bowl that feeds everything to it. If you hit good shots you get rewarded.

Then there are also a lot of holes where a good shot to 30 feet is everything you could ask for. So they do mix it up. But it was definitely feeling a little softer today than it was earlier in the week and it's a little bit easier to get the ball to stick where it lands, especially from the fairway.

Q. Have you ever had to hit a tee shot into that Sunday pin on 17?

CAM DAVIS: No. This weekend's the first for me, so I'm going to try and make it a really good first run around.
