NBA ALL-STAR MEDIA DAY

February 18, 2023

Tyrese Haliburton

Salt Lake City, Utah, USA

Media Day Press Conference

Q. What's the most underrated part about being great passer?

TYRESE HALIBURTON: Underrated part? I think the most underrated part is that you come down, you make a no-look and everybody on social media is like, that isn't -- what was the reason, why did you do that, didn't really work. Like it was more for -- but these are people who have never played basketball before. Sometimes it's like just a slight look in my eyes looking the other way can make a pass -- make it work. I think that's an underrated part about it because it's easy to watch on TV and be like, why did he spin as he threw it? Sometimes I just felt like it, and it's just in the moment, but I don't know, I feel like great passers don't have to look when they pass. It's just a part of it. When you're not looking, I think that throws people off every time, so I'm never going to stop. I'm just going to keep doing it.

Q. (On the versatility of today’s players.)

TYRESE HALIBURTON: I think where the league is going right now, playing five wings, you look at Brooklyn right now, they've got every 3-and-D player in the NBA. You've got teams that are going to be able to guard 1 through 5 at a very high rate, and I think we're going there very slowly, but the best teams in the league have done it, and they've done it successfully, so that's where I see it going. I'm very interested to see how it keeps working because you're going to have guys like Victor [Wembanyama] coming into the league. We just keep getting more mutants in the league who can really do everything, so I'm very interested to see how that goes.

Q. If you have another career, what would it be?

TYRESE HALIBURTON: Oh, that's a great question. I don't know. I truthfully don't know. I've got my little clothing stuff that I do, so that would probably be what I would do main full-time. That would probably be exciting for me.

Q. (On the possibility of a minimum games played requirement for NBA postseason awards.)

TYRESE HALIBURTON: I don't think there should be a requirement. I don't think there should be a requirement. I think it's overblown. Like I think the idea of having to set a game minimum on it or whatever I think is dumb. If a guy gets hurt, how can he control that, and if he's the best player in the league that year, having the best year, what can you do. I think the voters take that into consideration, and that's on them.

Q. (On Jeremy Sochan.)

TYRESE HALIBURTON: Yeah, I like Jeremy. I think he does a lot of things. He does the little things that guys don't want to do, and I think that's going to help separate him. Obviously in a great organization with the Spurs, and he's got the "Baby Dennis" thing going, I think it's fire. I love his style, the way he approaches the game. I like him a lot.
