Pebble Beach, California, USA

Pebble Beach Golf Links

Quick Quotes

Q. Great start in your third round. How big was that birdie on 15 to end the evening?

DENNY MCCARTHY: Really nice. I played 13 and 14 in some really tough conditions. Didn't hit that bad of a shot on 13 and just caught the bunker and it plugged and left me with a tough situation, but got out of it okay.

Hit a 7-iron in for my third shot on 14 after hitting into a windy rain off the tee. That's just going to happen sometimes out here, especially with the weather we get. I was just joking with someone. I've played this tournament three times before and had perfect weather, so this is the year I guess I was due to get some bad weather.

But, yeah, it was a great day. I felt really comfortable all day and even this morning with the nine holes I played at Monterey. Probably some of the best golf I played all week, honestly, and I shot 1-over par. So it's funny how golf works like that.

Q. What was working so well for you on that stretch you went 6-under through seven holes?

DENNY MCCARTHY: I just kind of pieced everything together. I didn't really have my best stuff the first few rounds, but scraped a couple 3-unders out of both of those first couple rounds. Like I said, I've actually played some of my best golf at Monterey Peninsula and shot even par. Just didn't really quite get the putts to go.

I kind of found something in my swing and matched how I had been chipping and putting it with some nice ball striking today. Yeah, it was just a lot of fun. Anytime you can just go on a run like that at Pebble Beach and you're looking at the ocean, that's tough to beat.

Q. What was the thought process with playing the first two shots on 16?

DENNY MCCARTHY: Just I had a good feel for my swing. I knew it was getting cold. The ball was, we had a good feel for how short the ball was going. Like I said, I flew a 7-iron. It wasn't blowing that hard on 14, but it flew 146 yards.

So it was, we had a good gauge for how the ball was flying. I had a good gauge for where I was with my swing, it felt good, and hit a really good hybrid and a 9-iron from 132 yards, hit a pretty solid one.

So I know what the putt does. Look forward to getting out and hitting that putt in the morning and moving on.
