February 3, 2023

Justin Rose

Pebble Beach, California, USA

Pebble Beach Golf Links

Quick Quotes

Q. Can you recap your round for me and that hole-in-one that you had on the front there?

JUSTIN ROSE: Yeah, absolutely. It was a bit of a dreary kind of day. Kind of English, I suppose, in many ways. But the course felt tough because of that, I think.

I did manage to get off to a nice start. A little chip in on the 11th hole.

Hit it close on No. 12.

It was nice to get out in the front. Chad played perfectly good golf today and kind of got on the back foot. It was that kind of day out there. So some early momentum was great.

A special day always when you manage to have a hole-in-one. I believe it's my 12th. Really fun to do, obviously in front of a couple friends, obviously James at Morgan Stanley. So really that was a nice moment.

Kind of felt like I could have kicked on from that point a little more. Made another birdie to get it to 5-under for my round.

Then just a couple bogeys from relatively nowhere. Didn't do much wrong. Just kind of crept up and a couple holes bit me. But probably not alone today. There was just enough wind and there were a few elements at play today which made it tricky.

Q. Speaking on those changing conditions. That's the nature of this event. Heading into Monterey tomorrow, change of game plan or staying the course?

JUSTIN ROSE: Yeah, I think -- I don't know how the other courses, the more coastal courses have played today, but obviously I feel like Spyglass played very long out here today. You had to drive the ball well and I did that today. I feel like we do have quite a lot of wind forecast the next couple days, but I think both those courses are somewhat geared up for it.

So this was the course today that wasn't really sure how it would play in these types of conditions. But, yeah, looking forward to each course presents a different challenge, which makes the tournament fun.
