AUSTRALIAN OPEN

January 16, 2023

Nishioka Yoshihito

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

Press Conference

N. YOSHIHITO/M. Ymer

6-4, 6-2, 7-5

THE MODERATOR: We'll start with English press first, and then we'll move on to national language. I will just ask the first question. Hello. Welcome to the Australian Open. How do you feel that you played today?

NISHIOKA YOSHIHITO: I think it will be our first meeting, but we know each other. We practiced many times. So we know exactly what we want to do. I know he can run a lot. He make a lot of balls and put pressure on me for sure.

But if flight is going to be long, I think it's -- for my body it's going to be that first because he is more fit than me. So I tried to play really aggressive. He is just trying to making the ball, but if the ball comes shorter and then trying to hit very quickly and try to get a net, try to finish a point very early, and it was very work.

First set was very tight, but I find a way. Just one break. And then I didn't loss my service game until second set, which is great.

Then in third set a little bit tight. I was thinking I could just go away for the third set and just focus on the fourth set, but I break him back, so I just focus on finishing the third set.

But I think I played very well and very solid and very smart today.
