HILTON GRAND VACATIONS TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS

January 20, 2023

Annika Sorenstam

Orlando, Florida, USA

Lake Nona Golf & Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Annika, thanks for coming in. Another great round. You are tied for second going into tomorrow's round. Talk about your round today, please.

ANNIKA SORENSTAM: Yeah, I'm not very pleased personally. I made a lot of mistakes out there and just didn't feel comfortable. I just was not able to save some shots and I was just -- I don't know, I'm disappointed. It was not a good round at all.

Conditions are perfect. Got a great pairing. Everything was great. Had a great warm up. It's just what can I say, golf today. So feeling disappointed. Going to go grab some lunch and maybe got hit some balls and kind of find it. I know it needs to be a lot better to have a chance.

Obviously Mardy played really, really well. That's what I think I need to do the next coming days, so got to get rid of this and start something new.

Q. As you look to the weekend to kind of lift your game, what role does experience play in that?

ANNIKA SORENSTAM: I need to rely on everything I have. Obviously, as you know, home course, home crowd, and just I have everything that I need. Just got to go out there and do it.

Today I just didn't do it. Didn't feel comfortable for whatever reason out there. Felt a little tense. Maybe because I had such a good round yesterday and I wanted to follow up with another one. But just didn't happen, so shake it off, start over tomorrow.

I mean, we're only halfway. As you know, it really doesn't matter. Just 30% of the tournament the first two days, so I still have a long way to go. It would be nice to have a little more momentum, a little bit more feel, just a little bit more positive image of my shots.

Q. Just wondering what you saw from Brooke today. Obviously four birdies in a row to start the day. Just maybe assess her round from your perspective.

ANNIKA SORENSTAM: Yeah, I mean, she played really, really well. Curious to hear what she says. I didn't think she miss the a lot of shots. She had some good chances. Hit her iron shots really straight? Good distance control. She drove it well.

I am sure she is very pleased. I thought she played well. At least I said good shot many times, so, yeah, it was fun to watch, fun to be inside the ropes, and watch how solid she's playing.

Q. What do you make of the length of her swing when you're watching it close like that?

ANNIKA SORENSTAM: Yeah, I need a little bit of that length. You know, it would be nice. I know she has this little drop kick, but she hits it out there. She gets some good distance, some good carry.

A lot of times when we look at people and people say, hey, give me swing advice, if she wasn't a professional we probably would tell somebody, hey, shorten your swing a little bit. But somebody like that, you just don't want to touch it. She's got good feel and good touch and she hits it a long ways, so it works perfectly for her.
