SONY OPEN IN HAWAII

January 14, 2023

Nate Lashley

Honolulu, Hawaii, USA

Waialae Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Nate, how would you characterize the round?

NATE LASHLEY: I hit the ball great. I've been hitting fairways the last two rounds. Feel like I'm putting okay; they're just not quite falling.

I've had a lot of good chances. I mean, I can't ask for as many birdie putts, especially on a course like this, that I've it. Had a lot of lip-outs on the back nine today, so hopefully tomorrow come out, keep hitting the ball well, and make some putts.

Q. How did you find the conditions today? Were they touch easier than the last couple days?

NATE LASHLEY: Yeah, I played in the afternoon yesterday. There was definitely more wind. Today, I mean, it's pretty calm. This is about as calm as I've ever seen it here.

But the course is in great shape, like always. Fairways are firm, they're rolling. The greens are nice.

It's always nice to be here in Hawaii. They keep it in great shape, so it's nice to be out here.

Q. Leaderboard's stacked with a lot of guys who are maybe inexperienced without wins. You have one on the PGA TOUR. Do you feel like that give you a little bit of an advantage knowing how to get it done come tomorrow?

NATE LASHLEY: Well, I mean, maybe a little bit, yeah. I think your first one is maybe the hardest is what they say, but the second one is probably just as hard. I mean, been out here a few years now so feel like I have some experience.

It's never easy going out and just hitting easy shots and being relaxed out there. It's never easy when you're in contention. You're just trying to stay focus and hit good shots and see what happens.

Q. How do you mentally, when you're in contention, prepare for it, deal with it when you're out on the golf course and keep calm and to kind of keep -- the stupid way of saying it -- one shot at a time?

NATE LASHLEY: Yeah, that's definitely one thing. Yeah, try not to get ahead of yourself because it's super easy to get ahead of yourself. You see a scoreboard and think, oh, wow, might have a chance to win the tournament.

I think, yeah, just sticking to what you're doing, what you're working on. For me, I kind of had a nice swing thought right now, so if I can keep that tomorrow and play some relaxed golf, hopefully come out and play well.
