ADELAIDE INTERNATIONAL

January 12, 2023

Paula Badosa

Adelaide, South Australia, Australia

Press Conference

THE MODERATOR: Congratulations. That was quite a match. Can you share your thoughts on the win.

PAULA BADOSA: Yeah, it was a battle out there, very tough match. Two very high-level sets against -- I was expecting a match like that against her, but yeah, really happy about the win and the mental part that I fought until the last point.

Q. It was obviously a two-and-a-half-hour match, a long game. How hard is it to back yourself up and feel fresh again for tomorrow's game?

PAULA BADOSA: Well, yeah, I have a few hours. I will recover. I will try to relax a little bit, not think about tomorrow yet. I just finished one hour ago. So yeah, recovery, and that's pretty much it.

Q. Tomorrow you're obviously taking on Daria. You've played her three times before and you won the first encounter, not the last two. What's going to change for you to get the win tomorrow?

PAULA BADOSA: Well, I think last times that I played against her, I missed a lot. Yeah, I mean, her game is a little bit like that, like to make you miss. So I will try to miss a little bit less and be more aggressive, and I hope it works.

Q. Do you think those kind of long games like those where you're playing deuces and putting pressure on yourself can set you up really well for the Grand Slam next week?

PAULA BADOSA: Well, I think everything sets me up for a Grand Slam, tough matches, short matches, being aggressive, winning long games, even losing long games, accepting it. Yeah, all these kind of things are good preparation, but not for the Grand Slam, for any tournament, and me as a tennis player.

Q. Obviously the draw has been out. Have you had a chance to have a look at it yet? Obviously you've drawn Katie McNally in the first round.

PAULA BADOSA: Oh, thank you. You're asking and then you tell me the answer. Yes, I know I was playing Katie McNally. Good match. I'm focused for tomorrow. I think I have a pretty good battle here, world No. 5 or 6. I don't know Daria, what number she is right now, so yeah, I will be focused on that, and then we'll see there in Melbourne.

Q. Today's match, so tough out there. The last three sets you've played have been either 7-6 or 7-5. How are you feeling after today's match?
