David Lipsky

Honolulu, Hawaii, USA

Waialae Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. David, how would you assess the round today?

DAVID LIPSKY: It was really solid. I mean, no bogeys on the card, so that's always a good day. Got off to a pretty good start when the wind was pretty calm. As it picked up some of the pins got tougher and tougher as the greens firmed up.

So just had to stay patient out there.

Q. What in particular was working so well for you today?

DAVID LIPSKY: I'm hitting it great. Worked hard my ball striking in the off-season as well as my putting. I had a lot of long lags today and no three-putts, so that's always good.

Q. How would you assess how, I guess for lack of a better term, comfortability on the PGA TOUR now?

DAVID LIPSKY: Yeah, it's definitely getting easier and easier. Not so much the golf, but just going to events. Seems more routine now, and I'm finding what works and what doesn't work for me.

Q. What in particular with your ball striking and putting did you work on in the off-season?

DAVID LIPSKY: Changed some setup stuff with my coach. With my ball striking, a lot of it is geared towards hitting it a little bit longer. I think last year I was fairly straight off the tee, so to make those gains is to try to just hit it farther, to be honest.

Q. What were some of the things you did to help you hopefully gain a few yards?

DAVID LIPSKY: Just trying to create better body rotation through the hip. Use less of my arms and hands and hit the ball more with my body. I think it's added a level of consistency to my all-around ball striking and not only distance.

Q. Do you feel like you're ready to win out here on the PGA TOUR? You've won on the European Tour. Had a lot of success out there, which is obviously a great tour, great world tour. Do you feel like you're ready to win out here on the PGA TOUR?

DAVID LIPSKY: Yeah, I think it's getting there. I think your first one you never quite know when it's going to happen. All I can do is keep getting better and try my best.

Also playing courses I really like. There are definitely some -- that's one of the things I learned on tour. There are definitely some courses that suit me more than others, and able to pick my schedule this year as opposed to last year when I was playing out of the Korn Ferry category makes it a little bit easier for me.

Q. What else have you learned, whether it's on the course or off the course, that's helped you acclimate more to the PGA TOUR?

DAVID LIPSKY: I think it's all about time management, understanding -- because the season is so long, to be honest. The year is so long. So understanding how much time to put in when I'm practicing back home and when to do that. That really helps me keep my energy levels up during tournaments.

Q. You live in Las Vegas?

DAVID LIPSKY: I do, yeah.

Q. Do you practice -- seems like there is a nice community of players in Las Vegas. Do you practice with a lot of guys?

DAVID LIPSKY: Yeah, I mean, I see Justin Suh, Kurt Kitayama, and Taylor Montgomery all the time. We always get those money games going. I've been on the bad end of that recently, so hopefully that will start changing thing year.

Q. That has to help when you come out here if you're playing with PGA TOUR players to be able to help your game in that sense as well, right?

DAVID LIPSKY: Yeah, definitely. You know, it helps you get better because you understand where you're deficient. I think it just pushes you to keep that competitive edge in the off-season.
