Cam Davis

Honolulu, Hawaii, USA

Waialae Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Cam, how would you assess the round today?

CAM DAVIS: Pretty solid. I hit the ball quite well, which is good. It was a little gusty breezy sort of a day, so yeah, getting control of the ball pretty well. Yeah, it was nice to hit ball solidly. A couple of three-putts, but for the most part actually made a couple nice ones as well.

Very happy with the start.

Q. Spent the winter down in Australia playing in the events down there. How do you feel like playing in those events helped you coming into the first start of the year?

CAM DAVIS: Well, I had a bit of time off between the last one I played there and here. I got a little bit of confidence. The last event I played was the.

Sandbelt Invitational, Geoff Ogilvy's event, and that was all on firm and fast golf courses, and with the course being as firm and fast as it is off the tee, I think it helped with getting some practice in with some nice low chasing shots with the 3-iron and 3-wood.

So I would say it did help a little bit, but then once you get on greens, these greens hold a little bit better than those ones, so it's a little different. You can fire a bit more at the pin. Definitely it helped. It was just nice to get some time back home.

Q. What do you feel like have to do the next three days to stay in contention?

CAM DAVIS: Just same. Same same. Just plot our way around. This isn't a golf course that you really want to full on attack. You kind of just need to place your ball around. There are definitely quite a few birdie opportunities out there, and in the fairways the priority for the most part, because otherwise it's hard to control the ball on the greens.

It's just keep blotting my way around. Actually very similar to the way I played the sandbelt style golf in Melbourne. You got to be really strategic instead of overpowering. There are shots around here where you can take it on, like on 18 trying get over the corner and get a bit of an advantage distance-wise bu doing that.

Most of golf course is very strategic, and so you got to keep plotting it around and building your score that way.
