SENTRY TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS

January 5, 2023

Tony Finau

Kapalua, Maui, Hawaii, USA

Plantation Course at Kapalua

Quick Quotes

Q. How would you assess the play today?

TONY FINAU: Yeah, it was pretty good. I would have liked to have made more putts. I think I hit most of the greens and had legitimate looks. But overall, I think with some of the time that I had off and, you know, you always hope for the best when you show up here, and I thought 6-under wasn't too bad today.

Q. So you got a lot of practice this week, not all on this golf course. How did the competition end last night in that wonderful weather?

TONY FINAU: Yeah, that was brutal. I had to bring my rain gloves out for the first time since I don't even remember when. So the weather got a little brutal on us. But it was a lot of fun. I didn't win anything in our family invitational. It was a little sad. But it was a lot of fun. The Summerhays family, (inaudible) family, and the Finau family, we had our own little thing and we had a great time.

Q. Who ended up winning?

TONY FINAU: The old boys won our four-man scramble yesterday. They played great. Preston won our 18-hole challenge, and then Cam won our Derby yesterday. So Summerhayses swept everything but one.

Q. Is that an annual thing?

TONY FINAU: I mean, I hope it turns into an annual thing. It'd be nice to start the year here.

Q. First annual?

TONY FINAU: First annual, yeah. We have done many of, we've played the Bay Course a lot, like the years that I've been here. I just wanted to make something more official. I felt like there was just way too much talent in our family and in our group to not at least have something a little more official since we're all down here and they like coming out here and watching me play this week. So I put together a little purse and we had a good time.

Q. What did Preston shoot to win?

TONY FINAU: He shot 65 and I shot 66. Yeah, we got good competition.

Q. What were the expectations or what are the expectations, I should say?

TONY FINAU: Yeah, well things change throughout a tournament, I know that. I think my game hadn't, my swing hasn't felt great going into this week, just practice reps over the past couple weeks.

But sometimes you get in tournament mode and I definitely hit it better today than I have in my practice sessions early in the week. I was happy about that. So I think my expectations going into this round was try and find a swing that might be able to compete this week. I think I'm slowly finding my way into the tournament.
