DP WORLD TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP

November 20, 2022

Jon Rahm

Dubai, UAE

Jumeirah Golf Estates

Quick Quotes

Q. Winning this championship, three times, winning five Rolex Series Events and shooting a 67 to hold off a course-class field: How special is this win?

JON RAHM: Very. Because of COVID I never got a chance to defend my 2019 title and even though I decided not to come last year, I came with the mentality that, well, nobody beat me in the last two years, so they are going to have to beat me again.

Came in with that confidence. You know, a lot of similarities to the past. Last time I won here I started at 15-under, had a heck of a front nine, and shot 20-under as well to win it.

I like this course and this course likes me. I hope this is third of many more.

Q. Hatton and Noren got within one with six holes to play. How big was the birdie putt at 13 and up-and-down for par at 14?

JON RAHM: Massive. Massive. And the second shot on 12. That second shot to give myself a birdie chance was amazing. On 13, I was just thinking, get it to the hole because I was thinking, throw it online with the putts. I was hitting the ball a little bit tentative and those two putts were huge because I kind of got in the attack mode. I told Adam what I thought I still want it hit on 15. I told him two threes, two fours win the tournament for sure and that's what I had in mind. On the last putt, I knew I had it one, so tried to basically 2-putt it.

Q. How deep did you have to dig to win this one, because you were poor off the tee today, you admit?

JON RAHM: Honestly I cannot believe I shot 12-under with how badly I hit it off the tee on the weekend. I was just able to manage really well. I think a lot of those times when I pitched out, my wedge game saved me, and on the grains on the weekend, I don't know what my stats were. But inside ten feet I was really, really, really solid, and that's always going to carry forward. Any time I was on the fairway, my iron game felt great.

I stayed aggressive and picked my battles, and again, I think I shot as low as I could have shot on the weekend to get this one.

Q. A win on PGA TOUR and a win in your own National Championship and a win here, how would you sum up 2022?

JON RAHM: Hopefully people can stop telling me that it was a bad year. Three wins world wild, three wins in three different continents, yeah, it wasn't a major championship but it's still a really, really good season. You know, had a second boy this year, a lot of changes at home -- it also helps. I got a lot of videos from my kids back home laughing and doing things.

I do draw from some memories. Kelley sent me a video of our youngest, Eneko, when he was clapping, and that's what I was thinking on the last few holes, hopefully try to make him clap a little bit more.
