LPGA Q-SERIES

November 18, 2022

Karen Chung

Mobile, Alabama, USA

Magnolia Grove

Quick Quotes

Q. Karen Chung, currently tied first; 5-under total. You had a double and two bogeys today but still shot 2-under. How are you feeling about things?

KAREN CHUNG: I'm not going to lie, right now I am -- it's a little too soon, but I tried to come back from it and I actually regrouped pretty well. I gave myself a lot of birdie chances coming in after the double.

So that was kind of nice to see.

Q. Yeah. You are one of the fastest players in golf, in my opinion. Oftentimes no practice swings. How do you stay present and kind of composed during a six-hour round?

KAREN CHUNG: It's pretty difficult. And with this format, the foursome, it's a little more difficult. That's the name of the game this week. So I just try to stay in it. I just talk to my caddie as much as I can and try to not think about the fact that I'm on the golf course for six plus hours.

Q. If you don't mind sharing, what are some of the things you talk about with your caddie?

KAREN CHUNG: Oh, wow, Ben. Okay, let's see, well, first off, I was asking him what he wants for dinner tonight. Then what he wants to grab to drink. Then possibly getting ice cream at the end depending on what time I'm teeing off tomorrow.

Yeah, usually that's how we try to spend the six hours, because picking food for dinner every night, that's a long topic. Kind of keeps going and going and going. So that carried over for a bit.

Q. Yeah, because depending on your mood it might change with what food sounds good.

KAREN CHUNG: Exactly. We been having Outback for the last however many days we have been here. If we have Outback one more time I might cry. So no Outback tonight. (Laughter.)

Q. Okay. No shade to Outback because they're big customers this week.

KAREN CHUNG: Yes.

Q. Playing two different courses. What are some of the differences between the two, if any?

KAREN CHUNG: You know, I feel like the Bobcat greens are a little bit harder to putt on just break-wise.

Coming in, that was what was so tough for me. I couldn't read the greens too well. Panther is pretty straightforward on the greens, and I feel like it's a little bit more gettable.

If the wind picks up both courses are super tough.

Q. Yeah, and it's been chilly and windy.

KAREN CHUNG: It feels like Alaska.

Q. Whoa. Just like your Uber driver.

KAREN CHUNG: Yes, my pizza coming from Alaska. Everything is Alaska right now. (Laughing.)

Q. The transcript is going to be wild here. What are the plans heading into the weekend?

KAREN CHUNG: Just going to try to stay in the present. I know that sounds cliche, but it's still two more days and that's still a lot of golf left. I know there is a lot of people packed at the top, so just going to try to survive with some pars and some birdies here and there, and then see where that puts me.
