CME GROUP TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP

November 17, 2022

Stacy Lewis

Naples, Florida, USA

Tiburon Golf Club

Quick Quotes

THE MODERATOR: Here with Solheim Cup captain Stacy Lewis. Great round today. 3-under out here. Just talking about it, the wind picked up today. I know it's kind of a tease usually during the practice rounds. What did you see on the golf course today that worked so well?

STACY LEWIS: Yeah, it was definitely kind of the normal wind, what we're used to on this golf course, that cold north wind.

Just putted it. I putted it probably the best I've putted it in a really long time. I think the first, gosh, through seven holes I think I only had eight or nine putts. Some were for par. Some were for birdie.

But just a really good solid day. Made one bogey when I got a pretty big gust of wind, but other than that it was really, really good.

THE MODERATOR: What were the lines of those greens? Obviously, I know they kind of speed them up out here just to make this course have a few teeth in it. How did you see the lines so well today?

STACY LEWIS: I think it's just playing here over the year. When the wind starts blowing like this, you have to play that on the greens.

I think the trickiest part about the greens is you have a lot of up-and-over putts that they tend to just keep going and they don't stop. So, in general, I thought I did a really good job with it.

THE MODERATOR: Finally from me, how pleased are you to be here? Obviously kind of holding on for dear life last week and just to be right there this week.

STACY LEWIS: Yeah, I said at the end of the week last week I didn't feel like I deserved to be here just the way I've been playing the last two, three months, but obviously really happy.

I mean, excited to have the opportunity again. Just what Terry Duffy has done with this tournament and what he has put into the purse, it's nice to reap the benefits of that.

Just trying to finish off the year solid and have a good week and get some momentum. Get these good things that I'm working on and take it into next year.

Q. What is it about this golf course that the cream tends to rise here, the champions are always top of the game?

STACY LEWIS: It's just hard. I mean, you have to hit -- you're hitting every club in the bag. You're hitting wedges to 4-irons to hybrids into par-4s. You're literally hitting every club in the bag.

I think longer hitters are always going to have an advantage here just because of what it is, but I just think the golf course is hard. It tests every aspect of your game. You have to be a good chipper. Chipping off of the grainy grass is hard. So every part of your game is tested.

Q. You've watched Lydia since the beginning winning out here. She hasn't been Player of the Year in seven years.

STACY LEWIS: That's crazy.

Q. Currently leads by a point. Just a player that's had so much success early, getting back to that point, you know how hard it is to get to that point.

STACY LEWIS: Yeah.

Q. What does that say to you about her mentality?

STACY LEWIS: Well, I mean, it just shows how mentally strong Lydia has been. I saw it at 15. I think it's always been there, but you get tested in this game, and you go through peaks and valleys, and you just have to keep trying to work your way out of it.

She's as strong-willed as they come. So if anybody could work their way out of it, it would be her. I mean, she's so great for the LPGA Tour.

She's going off the board this year, and she stood up and kind of said a really nice message to our board, you know, before she left the other day. I just said to somebody sitting next to me, I said, She's one of the best we've got. Just gets it.

She gets how important it is to be a leader on this tour, and you lead by the way you act and the way you do things, and she's one of the best.
