PELICAN WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP

Quick Quotes

Q. Here with Gaby Lopez after her second round here at the Pelican Women's Championship. A little different round than yesterday. What were some the challenges out there for you today and some of the good stuff as well?

GABY LOPEZ: Yeah, today I probably didn't hit my driver as good as yesterday. It was for sure a challenge off the tee for me. Even how wide it is I couldn't find the fairway, some of the holes. I was striking the ball with my irons pretty solid. Gave myself pretty good chances for birdie.

Didn't convert some; I did convert some. So one of those funky rounds that's not going to end up exactly as you want, but I'm happy to be playing the weekend, on a Sunday, and we'll see what happens tomorrow.

Q. Yeah. Speaking of tomorrow, still in the chase; only 18 holes left. So what's the plan?

GABY LOPEZ: Yeah, it's a golf course that you actually got to be really smart off the tee and into the greens. There are some funky little slopes on the green. Like 18 you have that ridge in the middle of the green that if you miss it on the green left you're probably going to have a hard two-putt.

Still got to be able to stick to the game plan, be able to hit the zone on the greens and not get probably too aggressive when even you have a wedge even, like number -- I think it's No. 5. Still you have to be really specific with the areas you're going to hit.

Q. What's more satisfying, making a birdie putt or making a good putt for bogey?

GABY LOPEZ: I mean, always the birdie putt is going to feel different. But, yeah, when you're all over the place and you find yourself with a 15-footer and you end up making that, it feels like a birdie.

So I feel that sometimes kind of getting those putts in for bogey, they're key to build momentum to the next hole. Doesn't matter what it is for, always watching the ball go in the hole is always positive.

Q. Do you enjoy a test that makes you think a lot out there?

GABY LOPEZ: Oh, I love it. I think this golf course, like I said, it's a championship golf course. You got to be very smart, especially with the wind. We have some side winds and it can get tricky. If you happen to miss it a little right, wind left-to-right is going to take it a mile right.

So you got to be very smart with exactly how you want to position yourself off the tee, and be below the hole is always key. The greens get speedy even with the amount of rain we got, the greens are fast, and, yeah, it's a great challenge and great preparation for next week.

Q. Did it firm up a lot just yesterday to today?

GABY LOPEZ: Probably not the fairways. Fairways are still a little soggy. It's still in great shape. The greens, they -- more than firmer they're getting a little faster I guess with the wind and no rain.

But it's just fun because the ball is exactly doing what you want it to do. I mean, it's rolling pure, and honestly, this is a great championship golf course.

Q. Last one from me. Are you watching Arkansas0-LSU today?

GABY LOPEZ: I am. You know, I'm cheering on my Hogs. Hopefully we can get that win today.
