Press Conference

D. COLLINS/M. Frech

6-4, 3-6, 7-6

Team USA - 1

Team Poland - 0

THE MODERATOR: Magdalena, a tough loss today. How did you feel it went?

MAGDALENA FRECH: Yeah, I think I played really great match, especially we played together three weeks ago in Guadalajara, I lost like in two sets, 6-3, 6-4.

So today I knew Danielle is so aggressive player. She's playing so tough, especially from the backhand side.

I tried to stick together with her, to focus on my service game. I think we played two sets in 1 hour and 10 minutes, so it was really fast. There was no rallies. But then in the third set, yeah, I had one break, and then I lost in two minutes. Yeah, I think that was the important moment.

THE MODERATOR: What did you do different today than that match in Guadalajara that brought you so close to a victory as well?

MAGDALENA FRECH: I think I served really well, especially first serves. Then I tried to play near the baseline. Tried to be more aggressive than her.

Yeah, it was really close in the tiebreak. She played really great, like, many lines in the tiebreak and two aces. That's too much.

THE MODERATOR: Questions.

Q. It's probably an obvious question: What makes her such a difficult opponent to play?

MAGDALENA FRECH: Yeah, of course I wasn't favorite before the match, especially after Guadalajara. It's a death group, so they are favorite in this tournament. I had nothing to lose, and I tried to play my game, tried to be better than few weeks ago. We had supporters.

It's completely different tournament than individual, and I prefer like this. Then we have team. So, yeah.

Q. Coming into the event and coming into this particular match, did you feel that maybe the pressure was off the Polish team this week and you could maybe go out and hit a bit more freely?

MAGDALENA FRECH: Yeah, exactly. That's what I felt. I just tried to focus on my game. Tried to be aggressive.

Yeah, I think that was the key. But, you know, in tiebreak, everything can happen like. I mean, one, two balls' difference. Yeah.

Q. You had a small but quite loud group of Polish supporters.

MAGDALENA FRECH: Yes.

Q. How much did that help you today?

MAGDALENA FRECH: Yeah, of course, that's what I told, this is completely different tournament. We are playing for the country. We are so proud that we can be here and play.

Yeah, thanks to them, it was like two-and-a-half hour I could spend in the court, and I felt so good.

Q. I know Magda is on court at the moment, I don't know the score, but what are your thoughts going into the next match at the moment?

MAGDALENA FRECH: I think she will win the singles and we will fight in the doubles. That's all.
