MLB WORLD SERIES: PHILLIES VS ASTROS

November 3, 2022

Framber Valdez

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

Citizens Bank Park

Houston Astros

Postgame 5 Press Conference

Houston Astros - 3, Philadelphia Phillies - 2

THE MODERATOR: We'll get started with questions for Framber.

Q. I wanted to ask you about meditation. Do you still practice meditation? And also yesterday during Cristian Javier's no-hitter the TV cameras caught him in the 5th inning. It seemed like he was meditating. Is that something you guys practice together or do you not know?

FRAMBER VALDEZ: No, we don't do it together. Those were just a couple things I talked to him about, just how to stay focused in the game, how to keep his concentration to the fullest.

And then for me that's something that I still do before the game. And I think Javier saw it and said, Hey, like, if that works for you I'm going to try it as well and yesterday we saw the results of it.

Q. Can you talk about how you felt the last two nights, great pitching performances from the starter, how this sort of set the tone for you going forward when you're going back on the mound for Game 6?

FRAMBER VALDEZ: Yeah, definitely helps a lot. It helps for me to stay positive. Obviously our guys here did an amazing job. We won two games here as well. I think that does help set the tone. Obviously we're going back home just needing to win one game. And hopefully with God on our side we'll be able to win that game.

Q. You have a chance to pitch on Saturday night now to pitch your team to a World Series Championship. How exciting is that? How much does it mean to you? How will you keep yourself calm to go out and do what you need to do?

FRAMBER VALDEZ: Yeah, I think I'm just going to try to continue doing what I've been doing all season. Just try and attack hitters early, try to breathe, try to stay calm, try to meditate. It's something that's really exciting. I think it's something that really adds a lot to your career and I'm really excited for this opportunity.

Q. Your father saw you pitch for the first time in the Major Leagues in your last start. Was wondering what were the conversations with him like after he got to see you pitch and will he be there Saturday night?

FRAMBER VALDEZ: Yeah, he will be there on Saturday. Yeah, he was just really proud of me, what I've been able to accomplish, obviously in that game. Also he thanked me for just pushing him to be able to come to the game. But, yeah, we celebrated that night and, yeah, he just feels really proud of what I've been able to accomplish this year in the majors.
