WOMEN'S AMATEUR ASIA-PACIFIC CHAMPIONSHIP

November 3, 2022

Liyana Durisic

Pattaya, Thailand

Quick Quotes

Q. Liyana, an excellent start to the Women's Amateur Asia-Pacific, 6-under. Talk to us about your round.

LIYANA DURISIC: My round went great. I was just hitting pars at first. My goal today was just hit fairways and greens and just get a two-putt. I was just aiming for pars. I was starting to hit it closer, and then most of my birdies were pretty much tap-ins, which felt great, because I didn't really need to try super hard to get a birdie. Yeah, that was it, hit every green, two-putts.

Q. Tap-in birdie on this golf course must be a huge relief because the greens are quite tricky?

LIYANA DURISIC: Yes, the greens are super slopey, but I feel like if you were to land it in the correct spot it's going to roll towards the hole, and I feel like that's what I did today.

Q. How was your form coming into the week? Were you expecting to pull out a low performance so soon in the championship?

LIYANA DURISIC: Usually I don't have any expectations coming into any tournament, but then I ended the season I would say with a pretty good score, and I feel like the momentum just kind of helped me out today.

Q. You're one of only a handful of players in the field this week that has competed in every Women's Amateur Asia-Pacific. It's a nice accolade, but tell us how you've seen the championship evolve.

LIYANA DURISIC: I feel like the event just gets better and better every single year, which is great, because we're super spoiled here, which is really nice. It just feels great to be in Thailand, good weather, and just playing our best really.

Q. To be first in this event five years ago, how have you changed as a player? How are you different now to what you were then?

LIYANA DURISIC: I feel like I've grown so much as a person and as a golfer. It was before I went to the States, and now that I've been to the States and I've played on so many golf courses, I feel like it's just adding up those strengths to myself and just finally putting it to good use.

Q. Does it feel special to you to know that you are only one of a few that have played every WAAP?

LIYANA DURISIC: Yeah, it feels like I'm sort of like a senior, but it feels great.

Q. You touched on how special, how well you're all treated at this event, but there's so many opportunities on offer this week. What does it mean to have a championship of this stature in the region for the girls to play in?

LIYANA DURISIC: I feel like it's really great -- I feel like this tournament gives you a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity because you're basically competing against the top six players from each country, which is just amazing in itself, so I feel like little girls should just strive to be better and like hopefully one day they're going to be at this event and they're going to realize, wow, this is the place to be and this is the place to take it one step further.

Q. Looking ahead to the rest of the week, obviously off to such a great start. What do you need to do to keep up the momentum?

LIYANA DURISIC: I think I'm going to pretty much do the same thing I did today with the same goal. I'm not going to be changing anything. I think it's just focusing on fairway, greens, two putts, give myself chances, and I feel like the scores should show it.
