ICC T20 WORLD CUP 2022

November 1, 2022

Logan van Beek

Adelaide , South Australia, Australia

Adelaide Oval

Netherlands

Pre Match Media Conference

Q. How is going your tournament so far, and will you explain the positive things so far you have got from the tournament so far, the positive things?

LOGAN VAN BEEK: Like it. Well, first positive thing is obviously the qualifying into the next round. That's been something that we wanted to achieve, and to sit there, go out and achieve that was awesome.

But the novelty has kind of worn off now after the first three games we played. We haven't put in a complete performance in these three games, and so the guys are determined to change that when it comes to these last two matches and walk away with at least one win but hopefully two wins.

Q. Firstly wanted to ask, how is Bas de Leede doing? He had stitches on his upper cheek, I guess. Is he ready for the next game or what's the status?

LOGAN VAN BEEK: Yeah, so we're actually at an indoor cricket at the moment. It's raining here in Adelaide, and Bas is training just in front of me now. Yeah, he's feeling fine. I think it's just a matter of him working with the physios and doctors just to make sure that there's no continued concussion, and as well, that his eyesight is fully functional. I think he's got a couple of fitness tests to get through, but at this stage he seems pretty positive and jovial.

Q. You've already spoken about how good it's been for you guys to enter the next round of the T20 World Cup, but can you talk more about how you guys have shaped up in these last three games? You've lost, but you've played big teams. You had a taste of some great bowling, batting. How is the team looking now?

LOGAN VAN BEEK: Yes, so that first match against Bangladesh we kind of circled that one as one that we felt like we could win, and I felt like we bowled really well to restrict them to 140, and just the way we started, to be four down in three overs was a bit of a nightmare, and we struggled to come back from that. So we felt like we let that win slip.

The India match was something really special and something that everyone has taken a lot from, not only getting a chance to bowl against some of the best players in the world, but to also face some of these guys that we watch on TV quite a lot, and to be middle of the ECG, nearly 40,000 fans, for me personally it was a really special moment, bowling those last two overs to SK and Virat. You're in the middle, you're under the pump, they're only two down and you've got to somehow try and bowl yorkers. So that was a really cool test and something that I will kind of take forward in my career.

And then that last match against Pakistan, we felt embarrassed, really. We put in a performance that we know we are much more capable of doing a lot better than that, and I think it's something that the guys are here training today, most of the guys are here to make sure that we put in our best effort and performances into these last two games because we really felt like we haven't fulfilled our potential yet because we've got some great cricketers in this team, and we're just hoping that we can fire as a group coming into these last few games.
