LIV GOLF TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

October 27, 2022

Louis Oosthuizen

Miami, Florida, USA

Trump National Doral

Quick Quotes

Q. Can you just talk about your team coming into this team championship; obviously great form early in the season, kind of having to deal with some issues, injury issues and whatnot. Can you just talk about the form coming in?

LOUIS OOSTHUIZEN: Yeah, you know, it's nice to have Branden playing again. Obviously got a bit of a scare there, not just for the team but for himself, playing in Bangkok. He made a good effort playing Jeddah to try and get some points. But yeah, played yesterday with him. He's hitting it good. He didn't feel any pain.

He's still going a little easy on it, not really going 100 percent, but he's good enough to be able to play at 80 percent or so. He's playing some good golf, the best of the four of us really.

I'm finally waking up a little bit. I'm starting to swing it better, hitting some better shots.

Charl is there or thereabouts. He's very close, as well.

Heading into match play and singles, I think we stand a good shot this week.

Q. Can you talk about getting your new old guy back in Hennie?

LOUIS OOSTHUIZEN: Yeah, I was fighting to get him back quite hard, and it's nice to have Hennie back in the team. He was great starting with us the first few events, and really enjoy him. I think he blends into our team really good and he gels with us. You know, as a young South African kid coming through and really playing well, great ball striker, it's nice to see that. Hopefully we can teach him a few more things.

Q. What do you think about the whole format? You guys have a day off tomorrow, obviously, get a chance to rest. What are you planning to do?

LOUIS OOSTHUIZEN: I would like to actually go out and drive a few holes, see what the green speeds are like. Today it looks like they watered them quite a bit. It's a little slow today. But I've got a feeling it's going to get a lot faster on the weekend with the heat.

But like to just see a few holes tomorrow, see what the speed is like, and yeah, then just rest up. We've got a few things we need to do, have probably a good breakfast session in, and then just rest up and prepare for Saturday.

Q. You didn't happen to see yesterday's press conference with all the captains, did you?

LOUIS OOSTHUIZEN: I did. It was very entertaining. I watched it and I laughed. Everyone is having a good time here and playing, just having fun, and once we get on the golf course, it's all about playing well in competition.

But it's nice to see everyone sort of get the right frame of mind going into this.

Q. Do you have any beefs you need to air tomorrow?

LOUIS OOSTHUIZEN: No. You know, I'll play it easy. Hopefully we can do the talking on the golf course.

Look, it's going to be fun. It was great seeing that press conference.

Q. Kind of overall, summing up how you think the season has gone in terms of LIV itself, has it exceeded your expectations? Is it about what you thought? Just kind of overall, the fun factor that you guys seem to be having out here.

LOUIS OOSTHUIZEN: Yeah, I think it got better and better each week. I think next year everyone is very excited about next year where it's going to be mostly just -- the team stuff will be more team feeling. I think the teams are going to be set for the 14 events. I think we're all really looking forward to starting next year off the regional plan that they had.

It's just great being part of a team. Every week we play now, it's all about the team. You know, it's fun. I've said it many times; golf needs more team events.

Q. Did you learn anything about yourself being captain this year, anything that came to mind, any decisions that you had to make tough decisions on?

LOUIS OOSTHUIZEN: No, just that my players are high maintenance. No, not really. No, we have a good bunch of guys, and now and then you just need to tell them, calm down, we're trying. But no, they're a good bunch of guys. It helps that three of us are really good friends; me, Charl and Branden are really good friends, and we sort of got Hennie in there feeling like he's been part of it for a really long time.

We have a good time, and decisions had to be made. I do speak to Charl and Branden about that, as well, and feel more like it's a team decision more than just a captain decision.

Q. One more question about the course: Certainly this year you guys have played some courses you might not be as familiar with. Certainly Doral is one that I would think most guys in the field are. What do you think about coming back to a course that you've been at before?

LOUIS OOSTHUIZEN: This is a golf course that I always loved coming to play when the Cadillac was here. It's a pity that we don't get to play it, or didn't get to play it for quite a few years. It's nice getting back here and playing it. It's an unbelievable golf course. Once the wind picked up a little bit, it is truly the Blue Monster.

I think it's going to be a great test. It's not just getting it up and ripping it. You need to work your way around this golf course. It's just a spectacular setting.

Q. Obviously captains are playing captains; that leaves one singles match and then the alternate-shot match that you have to decide. Is that going to stay consistent for you guys no matter what? Are you going to change that depending on what team you guys pick to play against?

LOUIS OOSTHUIZEN: I don't even know if we do have a little bit of gap to decide or if it's everything going everything straightaway.

Q. You're going to pick your matchup tomorrow live but then you guys have 15 minutes to meet as a team to determine.

LOUIS OOSTHUIZEN: I don't think it will change unless the person that's playing the singles is very uncomfortable for some reason. But I don't think -- I can't see any change.

Q. Do you have an idea in your head of who you guys would like to play? I know there's a lot of variables at play.

LOUIS OOSTHUIZEN: No idea, because it can be anyone. I mean, being fourth, we don't really have a choice. We're going to be stuck with whoever the other people that want to play. To think of it, probably the team that's going to be playing really well on Saturday, that's probably the team that we're going to be stuck with.

In match play, anything can happen, so it doesn't matter who we play.
