ICC T20 WORLD CUP 2022

October 24, 2022

Taskin Ahmed

Hobart, Tasmania, Australia

Bellerive Oval

Bangladesh

Post Match Media Conference

Bangladesh 144/8, Netherlands 135

Q. It seems like early on in this tournament, opening spells are going to be vital. Is the ball moving early on perhaps more than anticipated given it's Australian conditions and that might not necessarily be something that's associated?

TASKIN AHMED: Yeah, we have been watching the last few games that with the new ball it swings a bit more than the subcontinent. We all the bowlers worked really hard the last few days when we played in New Zealand.

We just tried to execute our basic things right. We are improving as a bowling unit. We all are doing pretty well. Our main focus is for improvement in the future, as well.

Q. I think a lot of focus coming into this group that you're in would have been on the bowlers bowling last night, obviously given the two teams involved. How much of an effect do you think you personally can have as a new ball bowler, and do you think you've come in under the radar a little bit because of the attention on the other two teams in this group?

TASKIN AHMED: Yeah, actually I played in 2015 World Cup in Australia, so what I experienced is that it's really sporting condition. With the new ball it swings a bit more, but after that ball getting older it's easy to bat on, as well.

If we can execute what the situation demands for the future, as well, we can do well. Even with the new ball and that stuff, we're just focusing for improvement, what I said, so that is our main goal actually.

Q. You played a warmup series in Christchurch in order to get acclimatized in this part of the world. Now you're playing in Hobart in fairly similar conditions in the way it's just as cold. Do you think in terms of the pitch and the conditions that are on offer here, that was good preparation, or is this way too different from what you faced in Christchurch?

TASKIN AHMED: Actually in Christchurch wicket was a little bit different than this, so the similar thing is weather. Today was cold, there was cold.

Q. How disappointed were you not to pick up that fifth wicket with the last ball of your spell? It was very close to picking up that fifth wicket. How disappointed were you about that? And obviously you bowled very well up front and the team have bowled very well up front, but how concerned are you about the death bowling, which it looks like can do with some improvement?

TASKIN AHMED: Actually not that disappointed. I'm happy because we won, and for hat trick, for five wickets, I think you need a bit of luck, as well. But I was just following the process how to anticipate the situation well.

Yeah, actually in tournament situation we was more looking for wickets, so that's why maybe we three bowlers finish earlier than Soumya came and bowled the last two death overs. Hopefully even if -- Soumya also in past, he have done well in death overs. That was the captain's call. We tried our best, so we are looking forward to the future games to do well in powerplay and death, and we are focusing on improvement. Inshallah, we'll do well.
