October 6, 2022

Jenny Coleman

Somis, California, USA

The Saticoy Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Okay, here with Jenny Coleman after her first round here in LA. You're a California native, right?

JENNY COLEMAN: Yeah.

Q. So how great is it to play in a home-ish event and do really well in your first round?

JENNY COLEMAN: Yeah, it's nice. It's just an hour and a half drive from home. I'll take that any time in the year, just a little drive.

Nice to be in California and play well in my home state, yeah.

Q. One of your best finishes this season was 14th place finish I think at the LA Open. Have you been thinking back to that and your success here in California?

JENNY COLEMAN: Yeah, I've been looking back on that pretty much this whole season. Yeah, I look into other seasons, too, but that one, just trying to channel that. I had good ball striking, dropped some putts.

Same idea today. Really good ball striking. Hit a couple iron shots to like one foot, one foot, two feet, made a couple putts here and there, so just kept the ball rolling.

Q. Seems like that's a hard thing to do to out here because these greens are so hilly.

JENNY COLEMAN: Yeah.

Q. Tell me about that.

JENNY COLEMAN: Yeah, not only is your approach shot going to be tough with all these different slopes and where to position yourself, but if you get in the wrong spot you're going to have this super fast sliding putt.

But if you get too close below it, then it runs off the front of the green and then you got a 50-yard pitch.

Yeah. Pick your poison. Downhill putt or chip up the hill.

Q. Yeah, well, it seems you were really managing that. You did well on some of the par-5s, too. How important are those going to be out here this week, do you think?

JENNY COLEMAN: Yeah, very important. It's your chance when you finally have a wedge, and you just got to stick it, just go right at the flag. Give yourself the shortest putt and hope to make it.

Q. What are you looking to carry into tomorrow from this round today?

JENNY COLEMAN: Yeah, just keep the same game plan and just be aggressive with the approaches.

Q. What is that game plan?

JENNY COLEMAN: Just keep it simple. Fairway, keep it in the widest part. Green, pick the biggest area that you know you can still have a putt even if it's downhill. And keep good pace.

Q. What does your support look like out here this week being so close to home or close-ish to home with traffic?

JENNY COLEMAN: My parents came out and my housing this week came out, too, so that was nice.
