ALFRED DUNHILL LINKS CHAMPIONSHIP

October 2, 2022

Ryan Fox

St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland

Press Conference

TOM CARLISLE: After three runner-ups this year, how satisfying to get over the line?

RYAN FOX: Yeah, very satisfying. A couple of really good chances and didn't get the job done, and had a couple -- which can't do anything about. I felt like for the most part, I controlled everything really well today. Last three holes, relatively easy par off the last, yeah, I can't put words on everything at the moment to be honest.

TOM CARLISLE: You spoke about your history with Shane Warne in this event. When we spoke yesterday, you said you wanted to do it for him. How do you feel now?

RYAN FOX: I definitely feel like he was there with me today. Obviously I did a few times this week. It's always been a special week for me. The last I think four years, I've got to play with Warne who is one of my idols growing up. He absolutely loved this tournament.

Last time I saw him, we were here last year, and ran second in the team event on a count back and he was absolutely buzzing and they be crashed after too many vodka Red Bulls the night before, as he tended to do around here.

He was missed by a lot of people this week, especially me. It was a strange feeling at the start of the week but also felt like he was there helping out and it was certainly nice to do it for him this week.

Q. Just on the back of talking about Warne, what do you think Warne would be saying now looking down on us, looking down at you?

RYAN FOX: I probably can't say what he would be saying to be honest knowing Warne. But he would be also trying to figure out how many vodka Red Bulls we could get in that trophy, which I'm thinking is quite a few.

Q. Wonder if you felt you came here with a point to prove after not being in The Presidents Cup last week. Was that in your mind?

RYAN FOX: Not really to be honest. In all honesty, I came here with trying to get a week in golf because it would have been a waste of a trip for mom and dad to get one round in Wentworth. Obviously this was a great week to come to but I was just happy to be there in contention on Sunday this week just to play four rounds.

There was definitely some extra motivation there this week, maybe not so much the Presidents Cup, but definitely to try to do something special for Warne, as I said and I'm pretty proud to have been able to accomplish that.

Q. Bob Charles won at Turnberry 50 years ago, but for you to win at St Andrews, just talk about winning here.

RYAN FOX: I don't think it gets any better as a golfer to be honest. Obviously winning The Open would be the next level up but to say I've won a tournament on the Old Course coming down the last few holes on Sunday, which so many great champions have done, you know, not only in this event but in Opens gone past, yeah, to add my name on that list is very, very cool.

Q. Just talk about what Jamie Gough has brought to your game. Would you be sitting here just now without Jamie?

RYAN FOX: Probably not. It's been -- I still work with Marcus, my coach at home and it's been a really nice fit. Gough does all the stuff on the road. It's just having eyes on every week and to know that I'm never getting too far outside the lines. He adds a lot of calmness to the team. He's certainly helped out a lot over the last sort of 15, 18 months or so.

Q. You've had some steady results and great results this year and now with this victory, you're ensured of going to Augusta. A lot of golf to play this year, but thoughts heading to Augusta for the first time?

RYAN FOX: I certainly hope that's the case. Tim mentioned it as I walked off the 18th green, and that's sort of one major I haven't ticked off yet so that would be pretty cool to get that in the mail. Obviously I would love to keep playing how I'm playing at the end of the year.

When I started the year, I think I was well outside of 200 in the world, so to even be talking about going to the Masters is pretty incredible. I have a couple of mates I made a bet with a long time ago that I would take them there, so I'll be expecting a few texts later on tonight when they wake up.

Q. You've moved up to third on the DP World Tour ranking and you will go to Dubai with a shot at winning the rankings; is that something that's on your mind?

RYAN FOX: Again, the World Ranking thing, I never thought at the start of the year it would be an option. Had a pretty lean couple of years in 2021. Yeah, I was just happy at the start of the year to get a win under my belt and get some guaranteed status.

I guess after the good run I had in the middle of the year, that was always the goal, to give myself a chance going into Dubai. It's pretty cool to have that. Obviously a couple of pretty good players on that ranking list, so I'll have to do something even more special to get ahead of those guys but just to be in the mix is pretty good.
