THE ASCENDANT LPGA BENEFITING VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA

October 1, 2022

Lydia Ko

The Colony, Texas, USA

Golf Clubs at The Tribute

Quick Quotes

Q. Here with Lydia Ko after the third round. A lot of good birdies out there; also a lot of good par saves. How important were those par saves for you? I know you had one on 10, right, and right there on 18 a good one, a long one.

LYDIA KO: Yeah, no, I hit an okay drive down 10 and then I think I just tried to be too fancy and draw something there. I missed in the only spot that I couldn't, and actually being in the bunker would've been nice, but it didn't go in the bunker and it went in the rough.

But, no, I got lucky with the lie with the ball being kind of propped up a little bit, so I just tried to take the positives from that, and then a great chip led to me having the opportunity for the par.

And definitely a nice par putt to finish on the last. I think the putter saved me on the first day and it saved me today. Hopefully it will be heroic tomorrow as well.

Q. Yeah. We're looking forward to that. I saw the double bogey on your card. Mind telling us what happened there and how you turned it around? You still finished really solidly.

LYDIA KO: Yeah, I think the ones that I missed were all left today, and then the only place I couldn't go was in that left side.

You know, I had a club that was probably a little too big and I was trying to be too cute with that. You know, that just was like an error that shouldn't have really happened but happened.

I tried to salvage it but didn't do a great job of that, so came off with a double.

But, no, I knew that because I was 2-under and then I was back to even, it was just a mindset of, hey, I'm just going to start from scratch. I know there are still birdie opportunities. I didn't get too upset at myself and just tried to move on and just hit good shots and give myself more looks for birdies.

Q. Last question: How excited are you to be in the chase tomorrow? Does that excite you at all?

LYDIA KO: Yeah, I haven't been here at this event in a while, so, no, it's nice to -- it almost feels like it's a new event for me. The year that I played the weather was so bad the tournament was cut short.

No, I don't think like I have a lot of experience like to kind of feed off from, but it feels like I'm playing well at a new event. So, yeah, just trying to keep it positive and be confident out there. It's a pretty packed leaderboard, and I think when you get into good rhythm of things, you can kind of make that streak of birdies and keep going.

At the same time, it's not easy out there, so it really can go either way. So I'm just going to enjoy it and have fun. And it's always nice to be in contention, and I think that's what the ultimate goal is, to be in contention.

And whatever happens at the end of the week, you know, you've got really no control of the result after that.
