THE ASCENDANT LPGA BENEFITING VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA

October 1, 2022

Charley Hull

The Colony, Texas, USA

Golf Clubs at The Tribute

Quick Quotes

Q. With Charley Hull after an even par round today, now tied for the lead going into tomorrow. How do you assess your round today?

CHARLEY HULL: Actually felt like I played quite well, especially the first two holes. Like I lipped out for birdies, hit good putts, and then early birdie early on the fourth. And then was like 1-under the front nine. Shame about that one, because that was a double.

But I just hung in there and got around level par, so it wasn't too bad.

Q. Just felt like maybe one bad swing. How were you able to bounce back and finish strong after that double bogey?

CHARLEY HULL: I was swinging it quite well, so I'm not going to let one bad swing affect me. It wasn't really that bad. Hit the cart path and rolled into the rough, and then it was a bit of a dodgy drop because it was just awkward.

Got out with a double, and, yeah, finished on level, so it was all right.

Q. As you prepare for tomorrow, try to get back to the winner's circle on the LPGA Tour, is there anything you'll be leaning on?

CHARLEY HULL: Just carry on being patient the way I have the last couple days. Hopefully more putts drop tomorrow. But, yeah, just kind of be patient and go out there and have fun.

Q. All right, here with Charley Hull after your third round here. Still at the top of the leaderboard. How much fun was it to play in the lead today and stay in the lead?

CHARLEY HULL: Yeah, it was good fun. I played quite well early on. I made a couple of -- had a long couple putts and they just edged the hole, but I made a good birdie on the fourth and then made a bogey, made a double, but then bounced back.

So got it in level, so it's okay.

Q. Can you take us through that double bogey? What happened there?

CHARLEY HULL: I pushed my drive a little bit. Hit the cart path, went into the rough, and then had to take a drop. Was a bit of an awkward drop because of like where the par-4 is. Yeah, just got a way with a double and holed a good par putt on the next after hitting quite a good tee shot.

Then, yeah, made a birdie on the 15th. I thought I had my putt on the last.

Q. Yeah. We all did. Heard the big, Uhh out there. How do you stay patient after getting a double bogey? Still played patient and got pars, birdies.

CHARLEY HULL: Well I knew I was hitting it well, so didn't really think too much of it. It can wobble your confidence a little bit, but I didn't let it bother me.

So yeah, just kept patient out there.

Q. Yeah, hitting like a pretty good amount of fairways. How important is just being accurate out here?

CHARLEY HULL: It is important to be on the fairways because greens are quite grainy, so you want to be hitting the fairways to then spin it on the greens, give it as much chance as I can.

So yeah, it is. Especially on this bermuda stuff. It's quite slippery.

Q. I know we talked about your driver a little bit yesterday. Are you using it a lot out here?

CHARLEY HULL: It's not a lot of drivers. When I'm hitting it I'm trying not to hit it too hard. Just trying to get it down there in position. That's mainly what I'm doing. Like I'm not teeing it up that high this week to hit some rippers.

Even though it looks like I hit it hard, I'm still probably hitting just like some three quarter drives down there.

Q. Every day we talk about how tricky this course is, but how difficult was it today? Was it any different?

CHARLEY HULL: I prefer this golf course with wind. I think it, like, plays better with wind. Well, I prefer it.

But, yeah, I think it's a very scorable golf course. Personally.

Q. What do you think the score is going to be tomorrow? You going to have to shoot another low one to win?

CHARLEY HULL: I think a low one will have to be to win, but, again, it's Sunday. People from behind come up and people at the top stay there.

So just going to carry on having fun and making birdies, and at the end of the day, it is just a game. I'm looking forward to going home next week, so, yeah.

Q. There you go.

CHARLEY HULL: It's a winning situation.

Q. One more question: Is it going to be an aggressive day attacking pins or just...

CHARLEY HULL: Just going to play my normal golf. I usually play aggressive golf anyway, so not going to change it. Just do me and hopefully that works.
