Fiddlesticks Country Club (Long Mean Course)

Quote Quotes

Q. Obviously a lot of golf left in this match. Talk about the first match, back and forth all day with Talia. How did you come out on top with extra holes?

KATE SCARPETTA: You know, these greens, especially in the morning, they're running so pure that just every day I feel a little bit more confident on them, which is good. I think I just felt really confident with the putter.

The last two putts, the one on 18 actually, was kind of a knee-knocker. I think I actually rushed the one on 17 because I thought I knew where it was going. So yeah, I'd say just I feel good on the greens. I hope I sleep on it and wake up and feel the same way. But yeah, the course is just in awesome shape, so it's easy. If you get it started on the right line, keep your head still, good things happen, for me today at least.

Q. Is this your first Mid-Am?

KATE SCARPETTA: First Mid-Am.

Q. Is it all you've expected?

KATE SCARPETTA: And more, yeah. I didn't expect as much excitement. I didn't expect the huge playoff and all the -- it's been more dramatic a little earlier, I think.

Q. Can you talk a little bit about the essence of this championship? We'll get into it in a second, but there's working women, women with families, younger women that have come up through the college ranks. It's just a blend of different women, very talented. Can you talk a little bit about that and how special it is?

KATE SCARPETTA: It's really special. Everyone is United by a love of golf. No one really has to be here. There's a lot of other stuff going on in everyone's life, I think, that's in the field. There's people that are reunited with their parents on the bag. I know a lot of people, not just me, that have their parents caddying.

Q. Is this Dad?

KATE SCARPETTA: This is Dad.

Q. He's played in some USGA events, correct?

KATE SCARPETTA: Yes, he has. Yeah, so that's another reason I'm confident on the greens. If I don't know what I'm doing, I can ask Dad.

But yeah, I would say everyone is united by just the love of the game, as cheesy as it sounds. That's really what's happening. You've got people that are pregnant playing, I believe. You've got people with kids. You're meeting different people, too. I would say everyone is competitive, just like me, but at the same time, we're not shy to sit down at breakfast, either, because everyone knows that it's us versus the golf course really. It's match play, but at the same time everyone is playing the same opponent, and it's Fiddlesticks this week.

Q. Can you tell me a little bit about your screenwriting?

KATE SCARPETTA: Absolutely.

Q. Just speak a little bit about that.

KATE SCARPETTA: For sure, yeah. I've played golf since I was nine, junior golf, amateur golf, college golf, Symetra Tour, all different mini-tours, everything except the top and on TV. So I really wanted to write a story about golf, and I'm figuring out different ways to kind of tell that, different angles, but that was the first show I pitched. It didn't sell, but at the same time I would love for that to be rebooted. But yeah, at the same time I want to write the next best golf feature or the first golf TV show. It's never been done. There's classics. "Caddyshack" is my favorite movie --

Q. "Happy Gilmore" is my favorite.

KATE SCARPETTA: I love "Happy Gilmore."

No, as far as screenwriting, I love sports, I love dark comedy, and yeah, I really want to write the next best golf show.

Q. 63 seed going all the way would be a pretty good Hollywood script, right?

KATE SCARPETTA: Absolutely, in the Mid-Am, because that means the Open, so not to get ahead of myself, but that is the goal, absolutely.
