Canada - 0

THE MODERATOR: Questions.

Q. Reflections on the match?

VASEK POSPISIL: I think especially the beginning of the second set when I got broken, I hardly made any first serves. That really cost me.

Then I actually felt like I was, other than the beginning of the second set, really feeling quite good when I was dialed in. Even the beginning of the third set actually up until 2-All, I was feeling pretty confident, I have to say.

I was hitting the ball really well. I felt that I had the solutions in my game to win the match. It was physical after that.

Q. We saw you getting treatment out on court. Is that for your back? Is everything okay? Will you be playing doubles?

VASEK POSPISIL: Yeah, I think everything's okay. I had a little lower back thing, a left glut kind of spasm or something going on.

I mean, the difference was physical, 100%. Nothing else. Tennis didn't really decide it, unfortunately, at the end of the match.

I think from 2-All, serving in the third set, I had a big kind of collapse. Just my whole body, extremely fatigued, I had some cramps. It was very slow, very humid, very physical conditions.

It's frustrating because I felt like it was a very high-quality match, very good match. Even at the end playing through the struggles I felt like I was playing a good level.

Obviously it's tough when you're going toe-to-toe with somebody. It's always small margins that make the difference. If you're physically spent, it's not a small margin at that point, it's a big one.

Q. Will the outcome of this match depend whether you play the doubles, if the tie is still live? If not, will you rest and focus on Serbia?

VASEK POSPISIL: Yeah, I mean, we haven't thought that far ahead. I think the natural conclusion to me would be if Felix were to win this match, then I would play doubles. I have two hours to recover. I think I'll be fine for the doubles.

Obviously we'll have to see the result of this match. Just see how Felix does. But I'll be ready to play if I need to.

Q. Aside from the physical thing, it sounds like you were pleased generally with your game and the way you played?

VASEK POSPISIL: Yeah, I think it was at a very high level. I think it was just a really high-quality match. A lot of positives for me for sure to take out of it.

I'm very disappointed. I wanted to win. It's frustrating because, like I said, I mean, I'm working hard. I'm a very hard worker. I train, like, many hours in the gym, on the courts. I'm the kind of guy you have to take out of the court to finish.

I mean, these guys are physically superior. I'm trying my best. I mean, again, it was a physical match, a physical match. The result was physical. So it's disappointing.

I don't know what to tell you. But I'm positive. There's a lot of positives to take away from it because I played a very high level, so...

Positive but very disappointing, too.

Q. How much would the humidity or heat in the arena affect your physicality?

VASEK POSPISIL: Well, for sure. Honestly I think these are one of the slowest conditions I've ever played in in my career, and it's an indoor court.

We're in Spain. They like slow conditions. I'm quite sure that's just a natural, something that any nation would do. If you're playing at home, you make the conditions suitable for your team.

I mean, these are definitely the slowest conditions. I mean, I was trying to remember if I've ever played in slower conditions, indoor, outdoor, clay. It's hard to think if I have, to be honest.

But, I mean, still we're there. We're fighting. We're giving ourselves chances to win.
