Paula Reto

Portland, Oregon, USA

Columbia Edgewater Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Here with Paula Reto after round two. Another good round from you. Can you tell me what was different maybe between your round from yesterday and today? Both good rounds, but what was particularly working today?

PAULA RETO: Yeah, a little bit of everything. Driver was a little straighter. Greens in regulation a little bit better and also closer. And then few putts dropped early, and also with the chip-in eagle sort of got the momentum rolling a little bit earlier in the round compared to yesterday.

Q. I was just going to bring that up. Really cool chip-in eagle for you. Can you just sort of walk us through the hole? What club were you using for that chip?

PAULA RETO: Yeah, so I just went driver and then 3-wood. Pulled it a little bit kind of right off to the left side and hit a 56 degree. Had to take a cart path relief so kind of had a nice little uphill shot.

I knew I had to land it short because everything is quite firm today. Ran it a little short and it just ran in. Kind of hit the pin and then kind of lipped in, which was awesome. It's always nice. It's a shorter hole and wanted to reach it in two and kind of got a little unlucky there.

But, yeah, I'm happy.

Q. Awesome. It's been a couple weeks since your big win in Canada. Do you think back to that at all and try and help that, ride that momentum of knowing you're a champion now?

PAULA RETO: Yeah, and, you know, it gives me a lot of confidence. Like I want to do it again, so it's such an enjoyment to be in the last few groups and being able to pull it off.

So I feel like I can do it again. I just need to stay within myself and one shot at a time, all those good things that we need to like revert back to. I feel like if I do that again it will happen.

Definitely a lot more confidence, happy, that kind of thing.

Q. Uh-huh. I remember in Canada you said the key was your putting then. Is the putting still really working for you? I know these greens are very fast. How have you been managing that?

PAULA RETO: Yeah, so quite different because it's poa as well, so the afternoon yesterday it was hard to make putts. Today it's a lot easier because we had a morning round.

Yeah, still doing the same thing with my putting. Still trying to stay disciplined with that. It does make a difference if you make a lot more putts. You're able to go lower and able to score better and also you'll make up and downs, you know, that kind of thing.

So it does give you confidence. So still doing the same thing I was doing in Canada.

Q. And how much are you looking forward to just playing in contention tomorrow, going into moving day being at the top? You'll get to play with some other really good golfers.

PAULA RETO: Yes, exactly. No, I'm super excited. I know that afternoon still have to play, but the greens do get bumpier in the afternoon. Not sure how low the scores will be. You never know.

But I'm excited, play again tomorrow, yeah. Give it another shot.
