Marco Simone Golf & Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. 6-under today, 7-under for the tournament. Where do you think your game is at right now?

TOM LEWIS: Definitely trending in the right direction. I've been playing well for longer than my results have been showing. I've just holed a few more putts recently and that's made a big difference.

Q. Over States side, things didn't go quite as planned but when you did come to Europe you finished. But speaking of trending in the right direction, what do you think is a good goal to have?

TOM LEWIS: You never know with me. Anything can happen. I can go out and win this week or I could miss the cut. It's really fine lines. The players are so strong nowadays. For me I have to focus on the little things that add up and obviously I'm on track right now.

Q. Two DP World Tour wins, overall game in a relatively nice place. What would be a good result here this week apart from that win, whether it's a mental thing or any sort of factor?

TOM LEWIS: I think for me if I can go out there this weekend and like make aggressive swings off the tee, which I have been doing as a strength of my game and give myself opportunities, I've been rolling quite a few 15-, 20-foot putts in and holing some important par putts from inside of six, eight feet. If I can continue to do that, anything like that.

For me continuing to into that position, like I have over the last few weeks, the more I do that, the more opportunities I'm going to have a chance to win and when I get myself in that chance, I tend to cross the line.

Q. Cracking two days work here.

TOM LEWIS: I'm really chuffed with that. That was a difficult golf course. It's obviously going to be a brilliant Ryder Cup golf course, and it rewards good shots and I've hit many of those the last two days. You have to hole putts. Nowadays the greens are so good but I'm actually shocked I played as well as I did. I thought it was going to play tougher than that. For me, it's just carry on doing that and hopefully I'll take 7-under par over the weekend and see where I stand.

Q. 4-under the front nine, was that surprised?

TOM LEWIS: The first seven holes, I don't think I hit outside of 15 feet and I missed a few opportunities. I was happy to continue to make good swings and may have had a hiccup with back-to-back bogeys but I bounced back well and happy where I stand right now.

Consistency has always been something I struggled with and something I need to learn. That comes with good short game, something I've struggled with over time, and it's starting to get better and starting to believe a little bit more in myself and that's why the results are changing.
