Highland Meadows Golf Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Here with Lexi Thompson. Ground out an under-par score today. I know it was kind of a slow start. Got it rolling, three birdies in a row. Walk me through what was going through your mind after those three birdies.

LEXI THOMPSON: Well, thank God I made them. Yeah, it was a very slow start. Made those few bogeys on the front nine, and just then got comfortable and was like, all right, screw this. Let's just go and play aggressive and make these birdies.

I got a roll there 16, 17, 18, which are holes that you can take advantage of, especially with back-to-back reachable par-5s. So you definitely want to make birdies there.

But, yeah, overall very happy with how I just stayed in the round, especially with that start.

Q. How do you stay patient? It's frustrating and I know some players can channel it. Can you channel it or just got to stay patient?

LEXI THOMPSON: Yeah, it's tough. I think we learn something new every single day, and patience is the biggest thing with golf. It'll test you, like today with the start that I had.

But you just have to stay in the moment and focus on your pre-shot routine, really visualizing your shots out there. At least for me, that's what I have to do.

And just stay in the moment and not get too flustered, and I think that showed with making those birdies and coming back.

Q. Did this golf course play any different today than yesterday? Scores aren't much higher, but seem a little bit higher.

LEXI THOMPSON: Well, there was a little bit more wind, but not much of anything. It was perfect weather conditions. The course is definitely firming up a bit. Some of those greens were a little bit tougher to hold with a few of those pin locations.

But the course is in great shape. I'm sure it'll get firmer as the weekend goes on. I can't really say. I would say it played pretty similar. Maybe a few tougher pin locations.

Q. You are one of the best players in the world obviously. You play well at most courses. Seems like you're always in contention here. Is there something that fits your eye? Something with the course that you like?

LEXI THOMPSON: I mean, that's a great question. Of course I go into every tournament feeling like I can win. If I don't feel like I can win I don't want to play in the event.

But this is just one of the tournaments that I really look forward to. I always know that course is in great shape, so that's always appealing to us golfers coming here.

I don't get to hit too many drivers. It's basically just giving myself the best opportunity from the fairway and getting those wedges to mid-irons in.
