Lexi Thompson

Sylvania, Ohio, USA

Highland Meadows Golf Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Here with Lexi Thompson. Nice way to kick off your week here in Toledo. Nice little 66. Played your last, what, six holes 4-under. Just walk me through those last six.

LEXI THOMPSON: Yeah, I got on a little roll with few birdies there. You know, to start the day I made bogey on my 1st hole and then went birdie, birdie.

So just tried to stay patient out there. I hit a few iffy golf shots, but tried to stay positive going into the next one. Really got on a roll with a few of my putts out there; stroke felt really nice.

So yeah, just going to take those birdies and that momentum and hopefully bring it into tomorrow.

Q. One par and then two back to back. What's going through your head when those putts are dropping and you have some birdies rolling?

LEXI THOMPSON: Yeah, you know, you can get it out here. I'm sure it'll firm up. It's firmed up just since Tuesday when they got a lot of that rain. But the course is in perfect shape, as usual, so you know if you hit the greens out here you only have about a 25-footer at most.

If you hit the greens you're going to have a pretty decent look at them. So feeling good about my stroke. That's always a big confidence booster for me.

But the greens are rolling amazing. There is not many ball marks or spike marks, so rolling perfectly. As long as you get it started on your line, you're good to go.

Q. Obviously played this golf course a lot. This tournament has been here forever. What's it like being back in Toledo?

LEXI THOMPSON: It's amazing. It's one of my favorite events. Dana came in and really supported this event, and I think as players we all really do enjoy it. Judd Silverman does an amazing job with this event.

I think we all thoroughly just enjoy come back to Ohio and then having another one in Ohio next week. It's easy travel with us, but the course is always in great shape.

And that's all we want. We want great hospitality, which we get in Ohio, which is always amazing. We just all very much enjoy it.

Q. Any memories from Solheim last year flooding back?

LEXI THOMPSON: Yeah, honestly just driving up the road and seeing Inverness, it's such a special memory. Obviously not the outcome that we wanted, but it's just a whole different feel representing your country and being in Solheim.

Words can't even describe it. A lot of good memories. I mean, obviously not the best outcome, but just to be there and be able to represent my country was top notch.

Q. Coming back to Toledo, can you talk about that a little bit? You come back with a bad memory, but yet hope I guess to win this one.

LEXI THOMPSON: Yeah, I mean, Solheim Cup there is just such amazing golf, you know, and it's match play, too, so you never know.

But it's always an amazing experience, just to come and play Inverness that time to represent my country. A lot of great memories, but I always love coming back to Toledo and playing Highland Meadows.

Like I said Judd Silverman does an amazing job with this event, and all the sponsors and Dana coming in to really support it and to have it here again means the world to us because we never want to lose this event.

We get amazing crowds and good TV coverage. Like I said, the course is in amazing shape every single year. There is not one year it's been, eh...

It's always perfect.

Q. What makes a difference maybe between Toledo and kind of a meh kind of thing?

LEXI THOMPSON: I mean, it's all weather predicting, but we even had the storm I forget was it Monday or Tuesday that took down some trees and flooded a little bit.

It already dried out so much in the two days of sun that we got. Like I said, it might be a little softer, but it's already drying out a bit and the course is in great shape.

With weather like that the course can take a beating. And heat as well. So they did an amazing job with the golf course and the golf staff here, so they should be so proud of themselves.

Q. It's been worse here.

LEXI THOMPSON: Yeah? Well...

Q. Like Sunday.

LEXI THOMPSON: Yeah. I mean, I guess, like I said, we look forward to coming back here. It's always in great shape and we look forward to playing.

Q. How have you felt about your game going into today?

LEXI THOMPSON: Going into today, I mean, I finished strong last week. Not the finish I wanted obviously. It was 30th place or something.

But finishing on a 5-under, made a few good putts that last day, too, so trying to build on the positives off that week, and especially that last round coming into this week, knowing that I've been putting in the work.

I've been practicing hours and hours a day and putting in the time in the gym. That's what a lot of people don't see. So that's all I can do. I can put in the work, put in the time, and just fun to see to pay off.

Q. Just finally from me, solid round, hot start. What's the mindset heading into the next three days?

LEXI THOMPSON: Mindset going into the next few days, I'm going to hit a few balls. I would like have my tee shots a little bit tighter than -- I know, it's like perfection. Golf makes us crazy. We just try to perfect it.

But I just want my tee shots to be a little bit tighter. But so much momentum going into the next few days, and just going to build off today and relax this afternoon and sleep in a little bit.
