Highland Meadows Golf Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Here with Amy Olson. We were just talking about it, cheering it on, but bogey-free today. 5-under round of 66 to get your week kicked off out here. Walk me through your round.

AMY OLSON: Yeah, you know, I actually kind of started with a good shot that ended up over the green, and I had a dicey little up and down on 1.

I think I hit a good chip. Had a five-footer up the hill, and honestly like that might have been the most crucial up and down of the day just to like have some confidence going into the round.

I struck the ball, especially with my irons, really well. Had a couple chances for bogey, but made some good saves with the putter. The putter has been kind of the thing that was missing the last few weeks for me, so it just felt good to have kind of all aspects of the game and not having one weak point that I had to protect against.

Q. What have you been working on with your putting, if you wouldn't mind sharing?

AMY OLSON: Yeah, I went out and saw Craig Farnsworth out in Denver right before I came here, and just working on kind of plane that my shoulders move on. I felt like I found a key. It's a little hard to trust under the gun, but I felt like I rolled it pretty well today, so that's giving me confidence going forward.

Q. This tournament has been here forever, so I'm sure a lot of experience at this golf course. What's it like being out here at Highland Meadows, back at Highland Meadows and playing?

AMY OLSON: Yeah, it's great. It's a really good golf course. I love this style of golf, just tree lined, heavy rough, huge premium on being in the fairway.

I honestly didn't strike my driver as well as I would've liked to. I'm going to be working on that a little bit this afternoon.

But I love being out here. The fans are great. They really support us, and it'll be fun coming on the weekend when we usually get really good crowds.

Q. This is a golf course that has two par-5s to finish. That's a rarity anywhere, especially out here on the LPGA Tour. I don't even know if we'll get that until Baltusrol next year. What is it like for you being able to finish on two par-5s? I know that's a little odd.

AMY OLSON: Yeah, I mean, it's fun. It obviously creates a little bit of excitement. Both were like almost reachable for me, so I hit 3-woods and had little kind of pitch shots in.

So not guaranteed birdies by any stretch, but really nice to have kind of an opportunity to end on a really good note.

Q. And you did that today on 18. Just walk me through that hole.

AMY OLSON: Yeah, I hit a good drive. I had 224 to the front of the green and I was looking at just finishing on that front edge.

I pushed it a little right so I had kind of a tricky -- because that angle left me a little downhill, like once I was on the green a little downslope, and my chip kind of took off a little bit.

So I had a 13-footer coming back, but it felt really good just to make that.

Q. Talk a little bit about the 18th green. That green has been redone in the past few years. That complex is different than a lot of others out here.

AMY OLSON: Yeah, it definitely is. Knowing where you want to leave yourself is super important. It's actually interesting, because standing out there on the fairway it seems like you want to miss right, but that actually leaves you the toughest up and down sometimes.

So just being able to commit to your line and making a good swing is really important if you have a chance to reach it.

Q. And I guess I would be remiss not to ask this. Football season kicks off for the Olson family on Saturday.

AMY OLSON: Yes.

Q. What's it been like watching Grant get ready for the season, and has that motivated you at all to play solid the rest of the year?

AMY OLSON: Yeah, I mean, it's really fun watching them kind of get ready for the season. I got to go up to practice last week and it's just a fun time of year. Obviously really busy for Grant, but I love being a fan.

It's kind of fun to be able to have something to cheer for once I get off the golf course.

Q. And on that note, how quickly will your phone be out when your round is done on Saturday?

AMY OLSON: That's always the question. When the tee times comes out for Saturday, okay, what time do they play? Okay, where will they be at? Yeah, if they're playing, I will be checking it right away.
