Quick Quotes

Q. Fantastic round today; 5-over through the first 27, 10-under the last 27. What clicked for you?

JON RAHM: Putter. Putter. Been hitting it really well off the tee, and my iron game was good. It's just those first 27 holes, a lot of times I put too much pressure on myself thinking I had to get it a little bit too close to make the putt just because I was a little uncomfortable. But found a comfortable feeling on 10. Making that birdie putt on 10 and that par putt on 11 yesterday really gave me some confidence and kept it going.

Today made some great putts, and more than those medium- to long-range that I made, I think I made three or four inside 10 feet for par starting on 4 that keeps the round going.

I got to 5-under really quick and those pars on 10, 11 and 4 on 12 and 15, those are putts that it can be -- you assume you're going to make those four- or five-footers, but you have to. They were all dead center, giving me a lot of confidence.

Q. Give us a sneak peek of this golf course for the leaders this afternoon.

JON RAHM: It's getting firm. I hit it about as good as I could off the tee, and you can miss fairways after hitting a good tee shot because of the way they slope. You have a couple of them that the fairway slopes away from the dogleg, so fairways like 3, 4, 5, 11, 12 are difficult to hit. Those are some of the scoring holes. You're just going to have to do it. I was able to make a few birdies from the rough, but that doesn't happen very often.

To my advantage playing early today. I'm so hoping they don't get too far away and I'm in striking distance tomorrow.

Q. Given how this golf course has continued to evolve from one round to another, what do you expect it to play like tomorrow as you get an opportunity to chase this thing down?

JON RAHM: Yeah, I mean, outside of somebody playing really, really well, it's difficult. You can make birdies out there, but you have to hit some precise shots. You could easily end up with a 40-footer that goes up and down a couple slopes.

It can be done, and somebody that's ahead of me can shoot a couple under each day and be really far away from me to be able to do it, but it could also get a little windy like it is right now and give myself a chance. Again, it's just going to be difficult to hit fairways, and if you're not in the fairway, it's going to be hard to go for those pins, so you're going to have to find a balance. We're going to need to make some putts. No matter who you are, putting is going to be very important.
