WESTERN & SOUTHERN OPEN

August 19, 2022

Stefanos Tsitsipas

Cincinnati, Ohio, USA

Flash Interview

S. TSITSIPAS/J. Isner

7-6, 5-7, 6-3

Q. Congratulations. John is always so good about making things come down to just a couple of points. What does it say about where you are at that you've been able to knock him off five straight times?

STEFANOS TSITSIPAS: I knew that coming into that match it's never easy playing against him. You have to deal with a lot of different variation of play that happens with him.

I think the most important thing is trying to stay patient, because there will be a lot of situations that you can't really control. That's what I was trying to do today.

You know, it came a few times where obviously that second set, that break that he took, it's not an ideal scenario, but I tried to keep calm there and find another solution. It all came to very few points at the end of the third set.

I was just able to hang in there and make one more ball, play one more ball back, and not give him much to work with.

Q. You talked earlier this week about water, being able to cut through the strongest surfaces. What's it going to take for you tomorrow to flow through the strongest surface currently in the game, the No. 1 player in the world, Daniil Medvedev?

STEFANOS TSITSIPAS: He's one of the best. For me, I'm going to have to play my game. I have been playing good so far.

Of course the obstacle like Daniil is never easy, but I'm going to try and be concentrated and try and approach my game in the most precise, best manner and let my tennis do the talking, and the rest will present itself if it's something that I deserve.
