Quick Quotes

Q. Tell us about your day, Ana. How has it gone?

ANA PALEAZ: My day was great. I think my team did a pretty good job. I think we all had fun. We had really good environment and energy between us, so, yeah, it was great. Great day.

Q. Richard tells me you made eagle today.

ANA PALEAZ: Yes, I did.

Q. On 6; is that right?

ANA PALEAZ: Yes.

Q. Tell us about that.

ANA PALEAZ: Well, I hit a pretty good driver and then I think I had -- I'm doing meters, so I think it was 172 to the pin, and then my caddie and I agreed to the 164 number. I had a 6-iron in my hands, and I don't know, I left it within I think it was like three feet.

Q. Nice.

ANA PALEAZ: Yeah, it was an easy eagle, quote unquote.

Q. Good one. Obviously you played that back nine really solidly by the look of your card. Nice golf coming in there.

ANA PALEAZ: Yes. I think, to be honest, I was playing really good golf also on the front nine, and then I had a really bad 7th and 8th hole, and my caddie on 9 said, you know what? This is the moment where you can click and you can tell yourself what you're going to do. You're not be driven by the emotions.

I think that's when my game started to kind of like...

Q. Improve?

ANA PALEAZ: Improve, there you go. And then, yeah, on the back nine I was able to score better.

Q. And good fan club there.

ANA PALEAZ: Yeah, my whole family, friends. Yeah, I mean, so many people. So, so grateful for that. It was fun.

Q. Having the home support is a nice thing.

ANA PALEAZ: Yeah, it's always nice. I love it. I love it.

Q. You were keen to make that tricky two-putt from the back of 18 and the big cheer that went up.

ANA PALEAZ: Yes. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Q. Nice moment.

ANA PALEAZ: Yeah, very nice. It's always good to finish with nice two-putts and get a good practice round now and get ready for tomorrow.

Q. The start you wanted to make going into the second round? You like your position?

ANA PALEAZ: Yeah. I mean, I tried to shoot the lowest score possible and it was a minus-4 and that's it. I'll take the good from this round and get ready for tomorrow.

Q. Who specifically is here among your family and friends?

ANA PALEAZ: Wow, are you ready? So my parents, siblings.

Q. How many have you got?

ANA PALEAZ: Brother and a sister.

Q. Older or younger?

ANA PALEAZ: Older. But I act like the older. Yeah, you know. I'm kidding.

Then I have my grandma.

Q. What's her name?

ANA PALEAZ: Ana. Easy.

Q. Ana senior.

ANA PALEAZ: Yeah. And then I have my parents' friends and my best friend came actually. She lives in Madrid but she was spending like summer here and she drove.

Q. Has she ever seen you play a professional event?

ANA PALEAZ: She actually for the first time in Madrid, yeah.

Q. So this is the second time?

ANA PALEAZ: This is the second time. She might be my lucky charm I think.

Q. What's her name?

ANA PALEAZ: B-E-G-O-Ñ-A.

Q. Okay, great. And then, yeah, there is something about this place obviously is special to you being where you made your professional debut.

ANA PALEAZ: Yes.

Q. So kind of almost like a full circle.

ANA PALEAZ: Yeah, yeah. I love it. And I love competing in Spain. I love competing near home. I can have my family and friends here and I like the energy, the vibe. I feel like I'm protected. I'm in a bubble, but at the same time I feel like I'm protected.

Q. Had you played here at all before last year?

ANA PALEAZ: Yes. I played -- yeah, I played last year.

Q. Yeah, yeah, but had you played this course? Because I know you're local doesn't mean you played the course?

ANA PALEAZ: I think my first round was probably 2-over, 3-over. I don't remember.

Q. But how many times have you played here?

ANA PALEAZ: Ah. No, last year first time. Yeah, yeah. Sorry, English.

Q. No, no. Great. So just in terms of your golf game at the moment because you had the high of the win -- is that your family watching over there?

ANA PALEAZ: Yeah.

Q. Fan club.

ANA PALEAZ: Yeah.

Q. The high of the win and the chase to try and get to Evian and all of that sort of thing, how do you feel about where you are now?

ANA PALEAZ: I feel like I put so much pressure on myself, and that's probably why I wasn't playing as good as I wanted.

Q. Yeah.

ANA PALEAZ: But yesterday I had a really good conversation with my coach. He said, You're playing good and it's just your mind that not letting your game come out.

So we said it's more like take a chill pill and enjoy your golf, because it's enough to be up there.

Q. And can I just ask one more question. Your coaches name and caddie's name?

ANA PALEAZ: Coach is Sergio, and then caddie is Job, J-O-B.

Q. And how do you know Job?

ANA PALEAZ: Last year he caddied for me for the ADT qualifier. That's how we met. Q-School.
