Galgorm Castle & Massereene Golf Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Congratulations on a great round. Just the 1-under, but given the pressure that you were under, how are you assessing your day today?

AMANDA DOHERTY: I feel like overall it was a good day. Got off to a little bit of a rough start and I hit a few crazy shots today, so I managed to kind of come back from those and try and stay patient, have a decent round.

Q. Coming into this week you didn't play the Evian. (Indiscernible) Scottish. Didn't quite make the AIG qualifiers. Given the prep that you had, how are you feeling coming into this week?

AMANDA DOHERTY: Yeah, I did play Evian.

Q. Oh, did you?

AMANDA DOHERTY: Yeah, I did play Evian. Yeah, two weeks off unfortunately. Yeah, I was just really ready to play some golf honestly, and I think kind of made me hungry to just get out here and play.

Q. And given the competition that you had, did you understand the situation of the players, Georgia Hall and Peiyun Chien as well, down the final few holes? Did you feel like that birdie on the last was a nice make?

AMANDA DOHERTY: A little bit. Yeah, I was definitely happy that that one at the end went in. I had a few short putts, kind of didn't hit -- I hit great putts, but didn't read them right, and so it was nice to see one go in finally at the end. Kind of maybe a little bit better momentum going into tomorrow, so...

Q. Pretty much leading the tournament by one again. You led it from wire to wire up to this point. Had a few Top 10s on the Epson Tour as well. How comfortable are you feeling going into tomorrow?

AMANDA DOHERTY: I'm excited. I'm a little bit nervous though. I would be lying if I wasn't. To me the nerves just mean that I care and that I'm excited, and it's just kind of good energy going into tomorrow.

Q. Absolutely. Excited for you. Good luck tomorrow.

AMANDA DOHERTY: Thank you.

Q. Congratulations. You're now in first position going into the final day. How are you feeling?

AMANDA DOHERTY: I'm feeling pretty good. You know, going into the second round and going into today I was in pretty much the same spot, so I feel like I've had a little bit of experience with that this week.

Obviously the final round is a little bit different, but I'm excited.

Q. Birdie on the 18th. Pretty impressive.

AMANDA DOHERTY: Yeah, I was glad to get a birdie there. I had a few close calls and nothing was going in, so it was nice to get that one.

Q. First position. How does that feel for you? Do you have nerves at all? Obviously you're happy you're in that position, but is there a bit of nerves and pressure?

AMANDA DOHERTY: Yeah, I'm definitely excited to be in that position. That's kind of all I can ask for. But I am a little bit nervous. I mean, to me though, I think the nerves just mean that I care and that I'm excited.

So this is exactly where I want to be, so...

Q. Have you found yourself in this position many times before?

AMANDA DOHERTY: I was in contention quite a few times last year on the Epson Tour. Didn't pull any of them off, but I feel like I had good final rounds.

That's all you can ask for. You can't control what anybody else does. As long as I can have a solid final round, I'll be happy with that.

Q. Since then do you feel like you've really grown and built on your game?

AMANDA DOHERTY: Yeah, I feel like I'm definitely a little bit of a maybe more mature player now, so I feel pretty good going into tomorrow.

Q. And you had a bit of a maybe slow start, but really turned things around and finished strong.

AMANDA DOHERTY: Yeah, I got off to a little bit of a slow start. I tend to do that though, so it doesn't freak me out too much.

Yeah, happy I turned things around.

Q. What will happen this evening then? Rest? Do any putting?

AMANDA DOHERTY: I might go hit a couple shots just to see some good ones, and then eat dinner and straight to bed.

Q. Have you ever played here in Ireland before?

AMANDA DOHERTY: I've never been to Ireland before.

Q. How are you finding it?

AMANDA DOHERTY: I love it here. The weather is cooperating for us this week.

Q. Yeah, you'll think this is what it's always like. It's not.

AMANDA DOHERTY: I would like it if it was always like this.

Q. I've got to ask, with a name like Doherty, there has to be some kind of Irish heritage somewhere there.

AMANDA DOHERTY: Yes, there is. Forgive me for not knowing exactly, but, yeah, my dad's side of the family there is a little bit of Irish there.

I'm not quite sure how many generations, but it's not too far.

Q. That's okay. I'm not going to ask you to pinpoint them on a map or anything like that.

AMANDA DOHERTY: Yeah.

Q. You had a good final round at Evian besides that one hole. How much are you going to draw on that going into tomorrow playing in the final round of a big tournament where you're in contention?

AMANDA DOHERTY: Yeah, definitely. It was nice to have -- I was in a little bit of a different spot at Evian really trying to move my way up the leaderboard. I mean, it's the same thing at the end of the day, so just trying to have a good solid final round.

Exactly, kind of trying to draw from that and some other experiences too.

Q. Do you feel like European -- I know European-style courses are not massively different to the States, but do you feel like there are a few things in Europe that do suit your game a wee bit?

AMANDA DOHERTY: This course honestly feels very similar to courses back home. The links is nothing like what I'm used to at all. This course has gotten a little bit firmer over the last few days so stuff is running out a little bit more on you.

But, yeah, this honestly feels and definitely looks like courses that I'm used to playing back home.

Q. Have you ever been in a final group before on a Sunday?

AMANDA DOHERTY: Not on the LPGA, but on Epson.

Q. Okay. So you do have experience like in final groupings on a Sunday?

AMANDA DOHERTY: Yeah, and some decent size amateur events and stuff. So not totally foreign. But for LPGA, yes.

Q. Are you going to look at sort of girls around you? You know, obviously Georgia has so much experience. Do you sort of look at that? Does that add to the nerves? Are you kind of, I don't care who I'm playing it's just when I'm playing almost?

AMANDA DOHERTY: Yeah, I mean, honestly, everybody is out there and we're all trying to do the same thing. I know there is definitely some players that have achieved a little bit more than I have at this point, but just going to try and do my best tomorrow.

Q. What would it mean for you to get your hands on some silverware tomorrow?

AMANDA DOHERTY: It would be awesome. I mean, I can't even tell you right now how awesome that would be, but it would be unbelievable.
